Teachers invited as Knec lists KJSEA examiners training centres

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has started to invite teachers for training of teachers who will mark the Grade 9 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).

Knec has invited teachers who applied for training as KJSEA examiners and item writers.

The physical training will start on Monday 14th April to Thursday 17th April 2025.

Teachers who were shortlisted and attended the online training have confirmed receiving SMS to attend the face to face training.

Knec has so far listed the following training centres based on the subjects.

Kiswahili – Machakos Girls

English – Maryhill Girls

Business Studies (BST) – Murang’a TTC

Agriculture – Kilimambogo TTC

Mathematics – St. Francis Girls, Mang’u

Geography – Sunshine Secondary School

History – Sunshine Secondary School

Christian Religious Education (CRE) – Machakos TTC

Biology – St. George Secondary School

Chemistry – St. Georges Secondary School

Physics – St. George’s secondary school

The training which was initially scheduled to start in March was postponed to April after it emerged teachers will be caught in school activities in month of March.

Successful applicants were first shortlisted and later invited through SMS for the online training which was largely introduction and orientation before the main course.

After completing the online course orientation teachers are now set to have physical training in the listed training centres.

However a significant number of teachers have raised complaints that they have been locked out some after making a mandatory payment of sh. 10,500.

Some are unable to get to the online orientation course. They say the course package is inaccessible.

After shortlisting Knec required the teachers to complete their registration by making payment of sh. 10,500 through a paybill number then validate the payment on the Knec examiners portal.

This was a hard nut to crack for some teachers who claim the process led to their loss. Knec asked those facing challenges to contact it for direction.

The first cohorts of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) will sit for their final assessment in junior school, KJSEA, from October to November this year.

The KJSEA will involve projects, practicals and theory papers. In May the candidates will start with the Creative Arts and Sports Project which will run till July.

The whole of July they will also do a Pre-Technical Studies Project. The candidates will sit for eight days theory and practicals from 24.10.2025 to 05.11.2025.

The registration of candidates for 2025 KJSEA was completed on the midnight of 28th March 2025.

Knec has listed twenty four KJSEA examinable papers the teachers will be trained on.
