List of Covid-19 vaccination centres for teachers per Sub County from 15th March

Covid-19 Vaccine Advisory Task Force chairman Willis Akhwale said names of the centres  identified for the exercise would be made public.

The first phase of the vaccination concludes in June  and will target teachers aged 50 and above,  nurses, clinical officers and doctors.

Teachers Service Commission (TSC) chief executive Nancy Macharia was vaccinated against the virus.

Ms Macharia asked teachers to visit the vaccination posts from next week.

she said 41 teachers have died from  coronavirus-related complications since March 2020.

“The commission will work with the Ministry of Health to provide  data  of teachers aged over 50 and above,” she said, adding that there are 15,000 such employees.

There are 330,671 teachers in public schools and 158,000 in private institutions countrywide.

Ms Macharia asked the Ministry of Health to consider giving the vaccine to 227,679  teachers who will be involved in the administration of KCPE and KCSE exams.

Dr Akhwale assured teachers of the vaccine’s safety.

“The launch of the vaccination is a demonstration that the government is committed to ensuring learning in schools is not disrupted,” said Dr Akhwale who is also a senor adviser at the African Leaders Malaria Alliance.

The vaccine being  administered  to Kenyans is the Oxford AstraZeneca one which has been approved by the World Health organization and the Ministry of Health.

“For a vaccine to work the cold chain must be maintained. Let Kenyans know that this vaccine is safe.”Dr Akhwale said.

“A vaccine cannot be approved for use and registered if it can harm citizens.” Dr  Akhwale  added that the oxford-  AstraZeneca  vaccine has  passed  phase three of the WHO-recommended clinical trials.
