KNEC to Begin Disbursing Remaining Payments to Contracted Professionals on Thursday
NAIROBI, Kenya — The government has announced that the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will commence the payment of remaining contracted examination professionals starting Thursday, August 6, 2026.
The announcement was made by Education CS John Ololtuaa on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, while appearing before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Education.
Chaired by Tinderet MP Hon. Julius Melly, the parliamentary session was convened to address key concerns and review ongoing interventions by the Ministry of Education—specifically within the State Department for Basic Education—aimed at bolstering the quality, accessibility, and delivery of education nationwide.
A central issue brought before the committee was the long-standing delay in compensating KNEC examination personnel, which had recently sparked mounting pressure and threats of boycotts from major teachers’ unions over pending dues.
Addressing the lawmakers, CS Ololtuaa confirmed that the financial hurdle had been cleared.
“I informed the Committee that the Ministry has already disbursed the funds to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), and payments to examination personnel will commence on Thursday, 6th August 2026,” stated CS Ololtuaa.
The disbursement brings major relief to thousands of teachers and education professionals—including invigilators, supervisors, and examiners—who have awaited their compensation.
With the funds now released to KNEC and the rollout date locked in, attention turns to the council’s automated Contracted Professionals (CP2) system to ensure smooth and swift distribution to all eligible claimants.
