The Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) has outlined amount of money which will be paid to teachers participating in the marking of the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).

Knec already invited teachers for marking of 2025 KJSEA that was done for the first time from 20th October to 3rd November.

The Council has made arrangements for the assessments to be marked this November and results released to the public in December.

According to Knec teacher examiners marking the 2025 KJSEA will earn sh. 35 per script. Additionally each will receive a basic amount of sh. 1,500.

The number of scripts marked will determine the amount each examiner will get. Additionally the examiners will get sh. 250 per day termed as coordination fee.

The assessment mark a transition from junior school to senior school for the Grade 9 learners.

The KJSEA candidates will then get results in a report form just like the KPSEA candidates which will allow them to join Grade 10 in January.

Knec said no certificate will be used for KJSEA candidates. It said CBC learners will only be issued with one certificate after Grade 12 final assessment.

The assessment will lead to issuance of Kenya Certificate of Basic Education (KCBE) and will mark end of learning for basic education that runs from PP1 to Grade 12.

The marking exercise will take two weeks. Knec has listed institutions that will be used as KJSEA marking centres.

3) Social Studies – Mary Hill Girls High School
4) English – Alliance High School
5) Integrated Science – Isinya Girls High School
6) Pre-Technical Studies – Pangani Girls High School
7) Creative Arts and Sports – Alliance High School

For some learning areas like English and Kiswahili paper 1, candidates were presented with multiple choice questions.

They were required to choose between A, B, C and D by shading the writing choice enclosed inside a circle in their OMR sheets.

However some learning areas were purely tested in open ended questions. Candidates were required to generate their own answers.

The marking of multiple choice questions will be done using Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) machines.

Teacher examiners will mark the learning areas tested with open ended questions and those with creative writings.

Knec already trained the teachers how to mark the KJSEA which has been done for the first time in Kenyan history.

The training happened during the April and August holidays and was done both online and later on physically in a residential venue.

The physical training were done in the following training centres based on the subjects/learning areas.

KNEC listed key requirements for teachers who want to be trained as KJSEA examiners.

Some of the requirements is that one must be a practicing teacher in the relevant learning areas; must have a Diploma in Education and above with at least 3 year teaching experience.

Those selected for training were also required to pay sh. 10,000 mandatory fee.

The training will be conducted partially online and later on physically in a residential venue.

Shortlisted trainees will be directed on how to access the online training materials.

The venue for the residential training will be communicated to the qualified trainees later where the exercise will be strictly residential.

Qualified examiners will thereafter be engaged by KNEC to mark KJSEA using the criteria for recruitment of examiners based on the personnel needs for each paper.

2.0  CRITERIA FOR TRAINING AS AN EXAMINER

2.1 General requirements for trainee examiners

2.1.1 Must be a practicing teacher/tutor in the relevant learning areas in the level of examination or above

2.1.2 Must be registered and/or employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) or Public Service Commission 

2.1.3 Must have a Diploma in Education and above

2.1.4 Must have a minimum teaching experience of three (3) years

2.1.5 Must NOT be on interdiction or any other form of disciplinary action by the TSC/employer

2.1.6 Must be recommended by his/her head of institution 

2.1.7 Must be 50 years of age and below

2.1.8 Tutors from teachers’ training colleges and TVET institutions are encouraged to apply for Home Science, Art, Music, Computer Studies, Woodwork, Metalwork, Building and Construction papers.

3.0  APPLICATION PROCEDURE

3.1 Applicants are required to do the following:

3.1.1 Access the KNEC examiners’ portal using the link https://examinersapp.knec.ac.ke

3.1.2 Those with CP2 accounts should log into the portal using their usernames and passwords.  

3.1.3 Those who have forgotten their CP2 passwords should click on Reset Password button and enter their mobile number in the format (2547********) and submit to get new passwords for logging into the system.  

3.1.4 Those without CP2 accounts should click on ‘Create Account’ and

follow the instructions to acquire login credentials to access the system.  

3.1.5 Upon successful login, the applicants will then complete their personal profile and save. On the dashboard, click on ‘Apply for training’ and all the declared vacancies will be available for the applicants to choose.  

Only qualified teachers who have presented all the required documents will be shortlisted for the exercise on a first-come, first served basis.
