Why many primary schools are closing on 25th October 2023

Primary and secondary schools are set to close next week. This is according to the 2023 school calendar that was released by Ministry of Education.

However on the ground a section of secondary schools are closing on Thursday 19th October 2023 while majority of them will close on Monday 23rd October 2023.

On the other hand majority of primary schools are closing on Wednesday 25th October while another good number will do it on Thursday 26th October.

Details show that many schools will not stick to the Ministry calendar. This is because the date will collide with an important national exercise.

Though 27th October is the official school closing date, primary schools will close earlier to give room for KCPE and KPSEA rehearsals.

KCPE and KPSEA exams will start on 30th October and end on 1st November 2023.

The Ministry of Education already released the 2024 school calendar which shows that school will spend ten weeks on holiday before reopening on 8th January 2024.

Knec had said that plans are complete to administer national examinations to 2.3 million learners who will sit this year’s KCPE and KCSE examinations.

Around 1,415,315 candidates will sit for KCPE exam, while another 903,260 will take the KCSE test.

KNEC Chief Executive David Njengere also said preparations have been made for KPSEA for 1,282,574 Grade Six learners.
