The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has reshuffled over 4,000 primary school headteachers ahead of January school reopening.
The Commission through the Sub-county Directors has issued the headteachers with transfer letters to report to their new station immediately.
The changes come shortly after the release of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam results.
The changes also come barely a week after TSC concluded teacher promotion interviews for primary school teachers.
The interviews which started on 4th December ended last week on 15th December 2023.
The Commission is faced with huge number of school heads leaving the service through retirement. Around 2000 school heads are retiring by December this year.
The Commission advertised a total of 36,505 promotion vacancies for primary and secondary school in September this year.
The interviews were conducted for primary school teachers from job group C1 to C4.
In the interviews C1 teachers were competing to fill 10,819 slots for Senior Teacher II (C2) position for regular schools and 700 slots for special schools.
The Commission had listed the following items to be presented during the December promotion interviews.
1) Original National ID Card

3) Letter of appointment to the current Grade
4) Letter of appointment to the current post (where applicable)

Around one hundred and fifty thousand primary and secondary school teachers were shortlisted and were issued with interview letters to compete for the 36,505 vacancies.
Secondary school teachers will have their interviews next year. It will run from 3rd to 16th January 2024.
C2 teachers are fighting to fill 3,040 slots for Senior Teacher I (C3) for regular primary schools and 346 slots for special schools.
C3 teachers are scrambling to fill 1,930 slots for Deputy Headteacher II (C4) position for regular primary schools.
Deputy Headteachers in C4 are wrestling to fill 1,049 Headteacher position in C5 for regular primary schools and 30 for special schools.
This interview was one of a kind with a record number of teachers ever to get shortlisted for promotion by TSC.
It was also the first time to have such interviews for promotion of school administrators done in sub-counties.
Tsc should develop a better promotion formular 150,000 applicants fighting for the 36,000 chances is a mockery of the highest degree!!!
HONGERA OUR ABLE CEO TSC MADAM NANCY MACHARIA!!! YOU ARE FIT FOR THE JOB . THESE HEADTEACHERS HAVE BEEN TOSSING CLASSROOM TEACHERS ABOUT WITH TRANSFERS AS A PUNISHMENTOF THOSE WHOARE VOCAL.. NOW ITS THEIR TURN TO TASTE IT.
THIS WAS THE BEST INTERVIEW OF ITS KIND. CONGRATULATIONS FOR THOSE TAKING UP NEW GRADES.
Wondering the fate of the majority of teachers who applied, shortlisted and Interviewed and not promoted yet they have stagnated in the same job group for more than six years. Commission should conduct an automatic promotion.
The interviews were just done to please the public eye 👁️, but it’s for formality.
TSC show promote teachers unconditionally, coz these are all trained and qualified teachers, furthermore employees of TSC, why frustrating them!!!!
Macharia, kindly stop frustrating teachers. It will harm you later in life 🧬
Dont say teachers did interviews.they went there to nurse their frustrations.
Teachers are a neglected lot. The CEO and unions are enjoying same bed at the expense of the teachers. Classroom teachers are going through hell especially at this time when taxation and cost of living is high. Many of them are un able to feed, cloth and educate their children.Walimu wamechezewa na mafisi waliojaa ofisi.
Promotion of teachers ought to be automatic upon attaining a particular number of years.
Sawa tu
Tsc promotion guide 2023 was the best if followed well and result displayed at interview office s for transparency.
Its all difficult to understand the system. I undertook the previous interviews successfully yes as it were. No regrets that others got. The TSC no. Displayed as successful candidates. But to date the letter has disappeared in thin air. Nobody takes responsibility and no explanation whatsoever
Tried several times without success. Please let me know the secret …..
The TSC should formulate a way of promoting teachers. It’s those in C3 . Why was it changedwho are the entitled for an interview
Teachers ought to have got promoted having stagnated in one grade for more than six years. Some of us teachers got sms just a night to interview of which they could not have some of the documents satisfied by the sub county director and therefore their fate still unknown if they could be counted as those who have met the requirements I think that should be taken into consideration.
Nothing good in the news
