The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) promotion interviews for secondary school teachers has kicked off countrywide.
The interviews which started today 3rd January will run till 16th January 2024 when it will end.
Around one hundred and fifty thousand primary and secondary school teachers were shortlisted and were issued with interview letters to compete for the 36,505 advertised vacancies.
Interviews for primary school teachers were conducted from 4th to 12th December.
Unlike primary school teachers who had all their interviews done in sub-counties, the interviews for secondary school teachers are done in counties and regional spearheaded by County and Regional Directors.
The TSC score sheet shows that age is the most important factor when awarding promotion interview scores.

The Commission listed the following items to be presented by candidates during the December and January promotion interviews.
1) Original National ID Card
2) Original Academic and Professional Certificates
3) Letter of appointment to the current Grade
4) Letter of appointment to the current post (where applicable)
5) Analysed individual subject results in KCPE/KCSE Examinations for the last three years, certified by TSC County Directors/Sub County Directors.
6) Performance Appraisal Reports for 2020, 2021, and 2022
7) Any other relevant testimonials supporting your performance
Those successful will have to produce five chapter six documents in line with the constitution of Kenya.
Below are the five documents that are mandatory inline with Chapter six of the Kenyan Constitution on ‘Leadership and Integrity’.
- Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) cost 1,050/-
- Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) cost Free
- Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) cost Free
- Clearance from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) cost Free
- A Clearance Certificate from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) cost 2,200/-
