The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has given junior secondary school (JSS) intern teachers a boost in the just advertised replacement teaching jobs.
The teachers have been awarded fifty marks for serving on internship contract according to the scoresheet TSC released to guide recruitment of post primary school teachers.
In the advert TSC has declared 2,082 replacement jobs in senior schools and has allowed junior school intern teachers to apply.
The employment is on permanent and pensionable (pnp) terms to replace teachers who exited service through natural attrition.
The Commission says the intern teachers are eligible to apply for the jobs which opens an opportunity for their deployment to senior schools.
There are a total of 20,000 teachers in junior school currently working on internship contract.
Their contract is on a one year term running from 1st January to 31st December 2025.
TSC has activated the online replacement portal for unemployed teachers to start applying for the advertised 9,159 teacher replacement vacancies on pnp terms where 7,065 posts are for primary schools, 12 for junior schools and 2,082 for senior schools..
Interested candidates have till 8th December, 2025 to apply for the jobs online.
JSS intern teachers have previously edged out unemployed teachers in senior school replacement jobs.
In the last replacement there was witnessed surge in the number of JSS teachers wanting to transition to secondary schools.
The surge in interest for secondary school jobs was driven by dissatisfaction in working in the primary school environment.
Majority of the JSS teachers cited heavy workloads, unclear career growth, poor infrastructure and facilities and lack of motivation.
In the recruitment the vetting panels first gave priority to local teachers from the sub county then those from the county then followed by those from the region before opening to other teachers from other counties.
TSC has many times insisted that in any recruitment local teachers must be considered first irregardless.
The Commission has listed the academic and professional documents that must be presented to the recruitment panel for verification exercise.
Applicants are required to present original and legible photocopies of the following, among other relevant documents for verification:-
