The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Secretary General Wilson Sossion has written to all Knut Branch Secretaries putting them on notice of an upcoming Annual Delegates Conference (ADC) that will culminate to election of national leadership in September.
Through a letter dated 22nd April 2021, Sossion said the nomination of the delegates to the Annual Delegates Conference shall be guided by the Branch Executive Council (BECs).
Knut however unlike Kuppet will not hold its ADC virtually but though physical meeting.
Sossion said this years ADC will have two agendas and asked branches to adequately prepare for the ADC and all organs of the Union to effectively play their roles in ensuring a successful ADC.
There have been tension that Knut would not hold its ADC after Sossion released a circular that suspended some branch elections due to Covid-19 surge.
The delegates are also expected to address the leadership wrangles that is bedeviling the once giant teachers union.
Sossion is expected to face off with Kericho Knut Secretary, Stanley Mutai, for the Union top seat.
Sossion warned regions against grabbing other regions’ National Steering Seats for peace and order to prevail in the Union.
Below is the notice issued by Sossion to Knut branches countrywide;
April 22, 2021
To: ALL Branch Executive Secretaries
RE: ANNUAL DELEGATES CONFERENCE (ADC) FOR KENYA NATIONAL UNION OF TEACHERS (KNUT)

2. Tabling and adoption of various reports and generation of URGENT RESOLUTIONS by the Annual Delegates Conference on matters affecting our members, the teaching profession and education in general.
Further, pursuant to Ariel VII(By of the KNUT Constitution and I quote:• “The nomination of the delegates to the Annual Delegates Conference shall be guided out by the Branch Executive Council. Top officers of the branches shall automatically be delegates depending on the number of delegates allocated to each branch” end of quote, branches are instructed to convene BEC meetings to nominate delegates to the ADC.
The allocation of delegates to each branch shall be forwarded to your emails. All delegates selected MUST be fully paid up members.
Regional Councils that have not convened should convene to organise their regions and strictly nominate one candidate for every NEC slot as is the custom and practice of KNUT to reduce confusion at the ADC.
The nominees of the Regional Councils to the NEC positions shall be forwarded to the office of the Secretary General together with the minutes of the Regional Councils.
All regions are encouraged to endeavor to conclude the business of NEC nominations and agree on candidates for their steering slots as currently allocated to their regions for harmony and order in the Union.
Regions are ADVICED to REFRAIN from attempting to grab other regions’ National Steering Seats for peace and order to prevail in the Union.
Branch Treasurers and the BEC members should endeavour to ensure that all the delegates are transported to and from the venue of the ADC.
We are currently in a bad financial state following the attack on our check-off system by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC)/Government and so we are liasing with partners locally and internationally to mobilise resources to enable us hold the ADC successfully.
This Notice is therefore meant to guide branches to adequately prepare for the ADC and all organs of the Union to effectively play their roles in ensuring a successful ADC.
You will be informed of the date and venue of the ADC at a later date.
We wish all branches, leaders of delegations and all delegates well as they prepare for the definitely EVENTIFUL ADC.
HON. WILSON SOSSION
SECRETARY GENERAL K.N.U.T.
