Schools to close early for April holiday to usher Eid-ul Fitr

Schools to close early for April holiday to usher Eid-ul Fitr

Schools are nearing closing date. In less than two weeks time both public and private school learners will be at home starting their three week April holiday.

According to the Ministry of Education (MOE) school calendar, schools are to close on 4th April, 2025 after completing thirteen weeks of learning.

However a significant number of schools are planning to close by Friday next week where majority are secondary schools and primary schools with large Muslim population.

Schools will have early closure owing to the upcoming public holiday as Muslims will be celebrating Eid al Fitr.

Eid al-Fitr is celebrated by Muslims worldwide because it marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan where Muslims fast from dawn to dusk.

Eid al-Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar. In Kenya Eid ul-Fitr is a public holiday.

It is a day off for the general population, and schools and most businesses are closed.

Eid ul-Fitr will possibly be on the evening of Monday, 31st March 2025 thus making Tuesday, 1st April 2025 a public holiday though dates may change.

Considering the closeness in date of this public holiday and the school closing date most schools have resolved to close early to allow the Muslim brothers and sisters ample time to celebrate with family.

However this will largely affect schools with huge Muslim population. Secondary schools are also planning to close early to save on budget.

The early closure will see secondary schools save on resources such as water, fuel, electricity, food, medicine and other operational costs.

Currently schools are nearing climax in athletics and drama activities. Most primary, junior and secondary schools have completed their zonals and waiting for a clash at the County level.
