Public and private schools are heading for mid term break. Most secondary schools will release students for half term this week.
However nursery, primary and junior schools will start their half term break early next week.
According to the Ministry of Education calendar of activities all public and private schools are to start their ‘half term’ on 25th June 2025.
This means schools will break on Tuesday 24th June 2025 to start their mid term break. Schools will resume on Monday 30th June 2025.
The former CS Education Amina Mohammed is credited for bringing the half term break to primary schools which now host junior schools.
In 2018 Amina extended the mid term break to primary schools asserting that all children must be given time to rest.
At the same time school ball games are picking up. In most primary and junior schools already inter schools have been done with some already through with inter cluster levels.
Ministry of Education revised the second term co-curricular activities calendar making changes to event dates.
Primary and junior schools are now under one sports umbrella body known as Kenya Primary and Junior Schools Sports Association (KPJSSA).
This is after junior schools were incorporated into KPSSA (Kenya Primary Schools Sports Association) leading to the formation of the new body KPJSSA.
Primary schools were directed to have learners aged below twelve years to participate in co-curricular activities.
For junior schools the learners must be below fifteen years and secondary schools they must be below eighteen years.
In secondary schools the Ministry has banned adults from participating. Only students aged below eighteen years will take part.
