Kaya Tiwi's alumni Christine Akinyi shines in Uganda

Kaya Tiwi alumni Christine Akinyi believes the sky is the limit after taking the Uganda Basketball Premier league by storm.

The 21-year-old has been posting excellent statistics for Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) in the current Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) league and was last week named player of the game after their match against Angels which they won 81-53 to remain second in the log behind league leaders JKL Dolphins.

In this game – Akinyi who helped Kaya Tiwi girls to three national secondary schools girls’ basketball titles and two regional games titles – scored 18 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and had six assists.

“I’m enjoying every bit of my stay here in Uganda both in class and on the basketball courts. My target is to help KCCA reclaim the Uganda Basketball league title which is currently being held by JKL Dolphins,” the six -foot, three -inch tall Akinyi, who made her league debut with Kenya Ports Authority women basketball team while in form three, said.

And her exploits have already earned her a national women basketball team call-up with Kenya coach Ronnie Owino naming her in the provisional team for the All Africa Games qualifiers set for Kampala, Uganda next month.

“Akinyi is young and is the future of basketball of this country thus the reason to give her a chance,” Owino said.
