CS Magoha to address nation on school calendar tomorrow at KICD

Education CS George Magoha will be addressing the nation tomorrow from 11:30 am at the KICD buildings. This comes after the president directive for the ministry of education jointly with education stakeholders to release a resumption calendar for the Basic Education and tertiary institutions.

“Following consultations with stakeholders in the education sector, and cognizant of the surge in the rate of infections, the Ministry of Education shall jointly with all the stakeholders in the sector shall today, not later than tomorrow, notify the public on the resumption of the 2020 Academic Calendar for Basic Education and Tertiary Institutions” said president Kenyatta earlier today from state house Nairobi.

But immediately after the address most top teacher union officials received invitation letters from the ministry of education to attend a consultative meeting to be chaired by the cabinet secretary from 9:30 am tomorrow at the KICD buildings in Nairobi.

Last wednesday CS Magoha had hinted that president Uhuru Kenyatta will give the way forward on school reopening.

“We have reached a consensus it is not my plea to tell you which consensus we have reached but in good time the owner of the process will inform you which process we have reached. The purpose of this is to tell you we are consulting because this is an all inclusive process so that by the time his excellency the president makes a pronouncement it will be an informed pronouncement.” the CS had said.

The CS is also expected to shade more light on whether learners too will undergo Covid-19 test. This is after the CS directive for all teachers and TTC tutors to get tested before reopening.

Among the invitees include officials from teachers unions Knut, Kuppet and Kewota. Also officials representing UASU have received letters to attend the meeting which is expected to clear the air on whether learning will resume in September
