Champions Kakamega high knocked out as county games hots up

Lugusi delivered an upset 1-0 victory to knock out High School football giants Green Commandoes of Kakamega at the ongoing County Games.

Lugusi thus advanced to the quarter-finals while Green Commandos who represented the country during last year’s East African Games in Rwanda crashed out.

Kakamega had needed only a draw to join St Peters Mumias in the Last 8 while the pressure was on Lugusi who needed to win to progress.

Samuel Malafu scored for Lugusi in first half to silence the home team crowd, a goal that lasted till the last whistle to earn them a historical win.

Head coach Enock Luchovereri has expressed his happiness with his lads.

“I thank God for the win,my boys have done us proud and with the win over Kakamega we now believe in ourselves to go all the way to finals and win it.

“It has been a long journey and now we are almost there,” he said

Lugusi will now meet Kakamega Township while Groop A leaders St Peters face Butere High in quarters later today

Lugusi goalie Abubakar Musa who saved many shots from Kakamega in both halfs to thwart every attempt of them to equalize,has hailed his side after playing with the intense and passion required to outdo the favorites Kakamega .

“The games was good and we thank God .Our coach told us at the break to relax and play without bother from home fans now that we were one goal up.

We have done it and keep matching ahead to the quarters ,”he said.

Lugusi will now meet Kakamega Township while St Peters who are leading Pool A face Butere boys in quarters.

Kakamega Head coach Brendan Mwinamo refused to comment on the loss with no member of the technical bench willing to say a word after a disappointing show in this this year’s term two school games in the county.
