Teachers are expected to report two weeks earlier before official opening date when schools reopen in September. Even as experts warn that its not the right time to reopen schools the government is still carrying on with its plans to ensure safety of learners and teachers when schools reopen.

Yesterday the president chaired a summit that brought together Deputy President William Ruto as well as 46 governors to seek a consensus on safety measures to be enforced prior to reopening the country currently under a nationwide night curfew and travel restrictions.

Education CS Magoha has been issuing conditions that schools should adhere to once reopened. He said each class should only allow fifteen to twenty learners. He also said all schools will have thermo guns for checking temperatures. The CS said each learner will be provided with at least two masks.

Yesterday the CS insisted that teachers will report to their respective stations prior to official opening date. This he said was to ensure that they get trained on how to handle Covid-19 related cases. He said the government is developing a system to train teachers on how to handle coronavirus like cases.

“The government is developing a system where teachers must come maybe two weeks before so that they are trained on how to deal with Covid-19 related cases” said Education CS Professor George Magoha.

Its still not yet clear whether all teachers will undergo Covid-19 tests before reporting to schools. A week ago the CS said all teachers will be tested before reporting back to schools.
