Some 72 teams are set to battle it out in the Coast regional ball games as they look to book a ticket to represent the region at the national level.
The battle for Coast supremacy in this year’s edition is expected to witness stiff competition with newcomers already dreaming of bigger things ahead of the showdown to be staged at Malindi High School, Kilifi.
In the football category, former Coast region champions Serani of Mombasa will be looking to bring back the glory days but it’s not going to be easy especially from the host team Canon Mweri who have emerged as one of the teams to watch.
Coast region Kenya Secondary school Sports Association secretary general Omar Munga has already clarified that all preparations have been finalized and teams are expected to report on Wednesday.
‘‘We have already identified the fields to be used; they are all in good condition. We expect schools to report by Wednesday. We know it’s going to be exciting but we also want to have the best competitions by ensuring no team will have any misconduct,”he said.
Munga on the other hand warned the participants that no team should report beyond 6pm as this will violate the rules set.
“We want to make it clear that we are not going to tolerate any late arrivals. The law is clear and this was communicated to all schools. We need to be punctual to make this exercise easy,”added Munga
In the Under 19 football category, new comers Kaya Tiwi who will be under Babu Hinga’s stewardship are in Pool A with Serani, Hola Boys and Canon Mweri.
Pool B has Lake Kenyatta of Lamu, St Mary’s of Taita Taveta, Mariakani Boys of Kilifi and Shimba Hills of Kwale.
In girls Under 19, the battle is expected to be between reigning Champions Kwale Girls who will be under the watchful eye of head coach Mukasa Amboko, St John’s of Kaloleni and Waa Girls.
Mombasa’s Mama Ngina alongside Ngao of Tana are pooled in Pot A together with St John’s and Kwale Girls while Mwatate Secondary School of Taita Taveta, Majembeni of Lamu, Mitangani of Kilifi and Ngao of Tana River make the Pool B in the girl’s category
