TEACHERS SERVICE COMMISSION
STATEMENT ON EMPLOYMENT OF TEACHER INTERNS
1) The Government continues to prioritize job creation and youth employment through the promotion of internship opportunities for graduating professionals.
As part of this commitment, the internship programme has been mainstreamed across the public service to better prepare professionals for the job market.
2) In line with this national agenda, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) introduced the Teacher Internship Programme in 2019.
The programme aims to equip newly qualified teachers with practical teaching experience, thereby enhancing their professional skills and competitiveness in the job market.
3) Following the Court’s judgment delivered on 27th February 2026. the Commission is actively pursuing the necessary budgetary provisions to facilitate the employment of the 44,000 serving teacher interns on permanent and pensionable terms.
This initiative is Intended to safeguard the welfare of the teacher interns while ensuring effective curriculum implementation in our schools.
4) The Commission reaffirms its commitment to safeguard the welfare of teachers, improving their terms and conditions or service, and promotion of industrial peace and harmony within the public teaching service.
Through these efforts, the Commission seeks to contribute to the realization of the constitutional guarantee of quality basic education for all learners.
5) In this regard, the Commission appeals to teacher interns to grant the Government adequate time to mobilize the required resources to support their transition to permanent and pensionable employment.
6) The Commission also takes this opportunity to commend teachers for their unwavering dedication and service in shaping the future of learners across the country.
As the second term of the 2026 academic calendar begins, the Commission pledges to continue serving them with diligence and commitment.
