Next year’s education calendar will run for 38 weeks.
The school year usually begins in January and ends in end of October or beginning of November, just before the national examinations begin.
In a circular on Thursday, Basic Education PS Belio Kipsang scheduled the first term to start on January 2 and run through to April 5. Half-term will begin on February 18 to 24.
Learners will then break for a two-week holiday before opening for second term on April 29 and end on August 2. Half-term for second term will be between June 17 and 23. Third term for primary and secondary schools is expected to run between August 26 to October 25. This will be the third time learners will not have a mid-term break.
The break was scrapped by former Education CS Fred Matiang’i in a bid to secure the national exams and to avoid distracting candidates. The KCPE exam will be between October 28 and November 2. KCSE will take place between November 4 and 29.
First and second term are expected to run for 14 weeks. Third term will run for nine weeks for primary schools and 10 weeks for secondary schools.
The school holiday and term dates released by the Ministry of Education are followed by primary and secondary schools as well as colleges across the country.
