ADVISORY ON EDUCATION DEGREE AND TSC REQUIREMENTS
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has revised the academic qualifications required for individuals intending to pursue a degree in education.
To avoid future disappointments, kindly take note of the following updated requirements and share this information with young people interested in the teaching profession:
- REQUIREMENTS FOR A BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN EDUCATION
Minimum Grades:
B- in both Mathematics and English.
C+ in the teaching subjects of interest.
C+ as the overall mean grade in KCSE.
BRIDGING COURSES:
Bridging courses will not be accepted to meet these requirements.
PREVIOUS REQUIREMENT:
Previously, candidates needed a minimum of C+ as an overall mean grade and C+ in the teaching subjects.
- REQUIREMENTS FOR A DIPLOMA IN SECONDARY TEACHER EDUCATION (DSTE):
Minimum Grades:
D+ in Mathematics.
C in English.
C+ as the overall mean grade in KCSE.
- IMPORTANT ADVISORY:
Do not enroll for education courses without meeting the above requirements, as you will not qualify for a TSC registration number upon graduation.
Be cautious, as some universities may still offer education courses to students who do not meet the stipulated qualifications due to negligence.
Such graduates will face challenges obtaining their TSC numbers.
- FOR GRADUATES WITHOUT TSC NUMBERS:
Graduates who completed their education degree or diploma under the previous requirements but have not yet obtained a TSC number are strongly advised to apply for it immediately.
Delays in processing the TSC number could result in complications with the new changes being implemented.
We need to embark on training of Music, Computer, Physical Education, Art and Craft teachers to address current gaps in the learning areas. That is the most crucial in teacher education as per now.
seriusly, we have gaps in these learning areas
This will lock out many students haki especially maths and eng
Despite all these changes,it’s still very absurd that students graduate with very good grades…A’s ,B’s and strong C’s but upon joining universities for courses such as medicine, a number of them drop out, literally become mad and more often change courses. This is a clear indication that the grades were not genuine. It’s a high time TSC need to find a new requirements of allowing students to pursue degree, diploma and certificate courses in the universities. There are students with low grades overall maybe due to school fees challenges but good grades in specific subjects( science & Arts) and have great passion for teaching. This could provide and or/ create room for science teachers. The TSC think tank need to consider this. My opinion though.
How now
Is this information true or you just want clicks?
What of those who are currently enrolled without meeting such requirements?
Work hard and drop
New policies cannot apply retrogressively. These new changes should not apply to the already continuing students. It’s unjust.
Sincerely, my son joined university to pursue education on August and has a C+ in English. What are we supposed to do? This could have been done earlier to avoid such head aches considering the problems we are facing as parents
A bus cannot change route passengers on board
This may favour mathematics and English
Kenya is continuously frustrating citizens. Teaching fraternity is the most demeaning. You tighten qualifications but with very little pay. A teacher is paid very little. So, where is the current lot already in training go?
Nancy Macharia has to vacate tsc. It’s too much.
Will this decision affect the continuing students in the teaching field?
how about the continuing students? second You could Lower the maths and English grades to atleast C+,B- ni mlima joh
