State of Knut boss Collins Oyuu after road accident in Kisumu

Secretary General of the Kenya National Union of Teachers Collins Oyuu was today Monday morning involved in a road accident in Kisumu County.

Oyuu was involved in an accident near Kombewa on the Bondo-Kisumu route after his car veered off the road and rolled several times.

Nyanza Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer Allan Mwangi said the car overturned while avoiding a cyclist.

“We are investigating the accident where a cyclist was injured. The other victim escaped unhurt,” he said.

Oyuu has been hospitalized at a hospital in Kisumu after surviving the horrific accident.

Oyuu who had been traveling to Kisumu International Airport is out of danger but doctors are still monitoring him.

In an interview with The Standard, Oyuu who is undergoing treatment at Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu said he was still in shock.

He said he was saved by a seatbelt that prevented him from being thrown out of the vehicle.

“I am doing better but still in shock. I had tied my seatbelt and it held me when the accident occurred, ” he said.

The accident occurred along Bondo-Kisumu road. It is still unclear what had caused the vehicle to overturn. Police officers have launched investigations into the incident.
