Dr Desai also tasked the institutions to set an enrollment target of 10,000 students per year so that the sector can reach the national target of 500,000 set by the Government. “As the Government, we know every TVET institution can meet this target, we have allocated funds for expansion of every institution so that the students enrolling in TVET institutions have access to better training that will drive both the Big Four Agenda and Vision 2030. Once, as a country, we have revamped our workforce then we can then start exporting our competent graduates overseas,” said Desai. Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions Chairperson, Gloria Mutungi, said there is urgent need to understand the industry, especially now that TVET has transited from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to Public Service Commission (PSC).
Ms Mutungi said there was need for special training of all TVET principals, deputy principals, registrars and management of TVET institutions.
