Ministry orders school heads to display FPE grants received

The Ministry of Education released Ksh.17.4 billion to fund the First Term for Public schools both primary and secondary schools.

In a statement the Ministry of Education said Ksh. 2.62 billion is meant for learners in primary schools while Ksh. 14.85 billion is to support secondary school students.

The Ministry said the release of the funds is to ensure seamless learning in all public schools, asking all Principals to ensure that learning goes uninterrupted.

“Principals are advised to keep all their learners at their respective schools to ensure no part of class time is lost during the shortened academic calendar,” the statement reads.

At the same time, the Ministry threatened action against school heads who would be found culpable of contravening the Ministry’s guidelines on school fees.

“Any additional fees outside of the official guidelines will not be tolerated,” the statement adds.

The Ministry has also released the breakdown of Free Primary Education (FPE) funds for schools.

The breakdown shows how schools should utilize the funds both for account 1 and 2. School head teachers have been ordered to display the grants receival on school notice boards.

DISBURSEMENT OF FPE FUNDS TO PUBLIC  PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ ACCOUNTS 1  AND 2

The Government has released Ksh.132.75 per child for Account 1 which has been deposited  into respective schools’ accounts.  

The utilization of the funds will be strictly as follows unless otherwise authorized by the relevant authority.

County Directors of Education should ensure that this information is availed to all public primary schools head teachers in their jurisdiction immediately to enable them utilize the funds as outlined above.

SCDEs should receive acknowledgements from schools upon receipt of funds, prepare summaries of funds received by every school and forward the same to their respective CDEs who will in turn forward the same to the Director, Primary Education within two weeks.

SCDEs should also regularly monitor utilization of these funds in order to ensure strict adherence to the Ministry’s guidelines.

All Head teachers shall ensure that information on receipt of capitation grant is displayed on the school notice boards and the budget tabled in Board of Management (BOM) meetings.
