Public Health workers are carrying out mass COVID-19 testing for students and staff at Kizurini Secondary in Kilifi County after the Deputy Principal of the school succumbed to the disease.

The deputy principal who is said to have interacted with students in the school succumbed to the disease on Monday, prompting public health officials from Kaloleni constituency to carry out mass testing for over 55 students and teachers.

Josephat Nzai the Kaloleni constituency Pubilc health officer said 25 others are yet to be tested to establish whether they are COVID-19 positive or not.

The teachers and students will be quarantined for three days while awaiting results so as to prevent them from interacting with members of the public.

”Those who were tested interacted with the deputy principal, we would like to urge parents and the general public to ensure they follow the COVID-19 protocols to prevent the spread of the pandemic,” said Nzai.

Kizurini Secondary School Principal Christine Lugusa said plans are underway to fumigate the classrooms so as to kill the virus and prevent any infections among them.
