Kakamega county secondary school games set to kick off today

The stage is all but set for this year’s Kakamega County Secondary School Games which begins today and ends Friday .The four-day event will be held at Mukumu High School, Kakamega High and Masinde Muliro University.

According to the competitions secretary Mathews Murunga, a referees’ clinic was penciled for Monday to take them through the requirements.

“The host schools are ready in terms of preparations and now the stage is left for the students to showcase their skills.

“We are expecting stiff competition which will enable us have the best to represent Kakamega County in the regionals,” said Murunga.

The opening ceremony will be held at Kakamega School from 12pm before the teams begin the battle for the tickets to the regionals which will be held in Bungoma County from June 18.

The Term Two games shall rekindle the rivalry between the hosts Kakamega High who are also the defending champions, as they square it out with Mumias West Zone champions St Peter’s Boys in football U20 which kicks off 2:00pm Tuesday.

Arch Bishop Njenga Girls from Lugari shall be defending their title in the U20 football which they won last year.

Other disciplines featured will be volleyball and netball (both boys and girls categories). Malava Boys and Bishop Sulumeti hold the volleyball titles.
