Teachers working for Teachers Service Commission (TSC) under internship will now battle it out with others as TSC failed to provide provision for them to be automatically employed in the July 2021 advert.
In the recruitment advert, TSC will employ 5,000 secondary school teachers where 1,000 of these will be for deployment of p1 graduate teachers to high school.
In addition the Commission has also advertised 2,987 vacancies for Primary and 927 vacancies for Secondary Schools to replace teachers who exited service.
TSC directed interested and qualified candidates to submit their applications online through the Commission’s website, www.tsc. go.ke under ‘Careers’ or teacheronline.tsc.go.ke not later than 12th July, 2021.
However TSC did not expound on the fate of intern teachers currently serving for one year contract.
Last year TSC failed to automatically confirm intern teachers instead it awarded them ten marks for serving under internship.
This led to some being locked out as they were unable to battle out other candidates who had other advantages like year of graduation and quality of academic certificates.
TSC is yet to release the official recruitment guidelines which should capture the score sheet showing the marks to be awarded during the recruitment interviews. This according to TSC will be released in July along with the vacancies/slots available in each schools for secondary and sub-county for primary schools.
Intern teachers who failed to secure employment last year had their contract renewed for another one year.
There have been calls for TSC to automatically confirm intern teachers without subjecting them for further recruitment interviews.
