The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will pay teachers November salaries earlier than usual.
Already the Commission has closed the November payroll to allow processing of the salaries.
Teachers are likely to have their salaries in their bank and sacco accounts by 20th November as the Commission aims to empower them for various programmes ahead.
Some of the programmes teachers will be involved in include; P1 teachers upgrading courses sponsored by World Bank, KCSE two week marking exercise, CEMASTEA training for heads of departments in senior schools and training of senior school teachers on new curriculum.
The Commission has also factored in pending arrears for a number of teachers who have been claiming without results.
Additionally TSC has also automatically promoted to next job group teachers who it employed in September and October 2022 inline with Career Progression Guidelines (CPG).
The early November payroll closure is a reaction to an order by the Head of Public Service, Mr Felix Koskei, who directed all government agencies including TSC to submit payrolls to the National Treasury by the 20th of every month.
In a circular dated 24th June 2025, Koskei ordered all Ministries, Departments, Agencies, and County Governments to process and finalize their monthly payrolls by the 15th of every month.
“To further enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and integrity of the Government payroll management and to safeguard the timely remittance of all statutory deductions including but not limited to Pay As You Earn (PAYE), National Social Security Fund (NSSF), Higher Education Loan Board (HELB), National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), pension contributions, and Social Health Authority (SHA), the Government has revised the payroll procession and closure deadline to the 18th day of every month, effective immediately,” read the circular.
He said adherence to this revised schedule will facilitate the timely submission of exchequer requisitions to the National Treasury by the 20th of every month and to ensure that all public officers statutory deductions are up to date and active.
Previously teachers used to get salaries from 26th of every month. However there has been a paradigm shift following this new order.
