DPTE results for P1 Diploma Upgraders to be out ahead of recruitment

The Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) will release results for first cohorts of P1 Diploma Upgraders by December 2022.

This will help the teachers in securing recruitment slots next year. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will recruit 30,000 primary and secondary school teachers in January 2023.

The Commission will employ teachers both on permanent and internship terms early next year.

The P1 Ugraders were in teaching practice in various schools and the practicum is ending this week.

However some schools have already released the trainee teachers who have been in teaching practice (TP) since the beginning of this third term.

The Ministry of Education had issued a circular on 4th November requiring school heads of the TP schools to give clearance report of the trainee teachers.

The trainees had their external assessments courtesy of Knec which ran upto 4th November. According to the circular the trainees are to remain in their TP schools until the end of the third term.

The teachers will be awarded their certificates after completing their full term teaching practice according to Knec.

The results will include the Knec assessments they did from 15th July to 20th July 2022.

A taskforce had recommended both P1 and ECDE teachers to undergo the mandatory training to be at par with the demand of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC). The training of the first cohorts started in October last year.

The second cohorts started in September this year. According to a circular dated 6th October 2022 sent to TTC Principals, only eight TTCs are to be used to train the teachers this year due to the low enrollment.

Due to the low number of P1 teachers who applied for upgrading the Ministry of Education, Principal Secretary, ordered placement of students to be merged into eight colleges.

The PS asked the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) to redistribute the students in the eight colleges as follows;

  1. Murang’a TTC for Meru, Egoji and Kigari TTCs
  2. Machakos TTC for Kitui, Kilimambogo and Garissa TTCs

TSC in its Framework plans to end recruitment of PTE teachers in the year 2024 and replace it with DPTE as the minimum entry to teaching profession.
