Coast region teachers instate Kwale governor, Salim Mvurya, as there patron

Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya has been installed as the regional patron of the Kenya Primary Schools Head teachers Association (Kepsha).

The governor, whose county has been running a Sh400 million annual bursary fund, was honoured during a teachers’ conference at the Kabarak University in Nakuru.

Speaking at the ceremony, Kepsha Regional Chairman Fuad Ali said they unanimously agreed to have Mr Mvurya as their patron because of his passion and leadership he had provided in education.”Mvurya’s commitment to education is evident for all to see. He has come up with education programmes that are exemplary in the entire nation, and we feel he is the right patron for Kepsha,” Mr Ali said amid cheers.

The two-day conference brought together 1,500 head teachers from Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa, Taita Taveta, Lamu and Mombasa, with an intention of sharing experiences and charting the way forward with regards to spurring levels of education in the region.

Education Regional Director Hassan Duale said lack of political goodwill by politicians had made most counties lag behind in education.

“This is a sensitive sector that requires all stakeholders and steadfast leadership, and as a region we now have Governor Mvurya to assist us to bring everyone on board and push for good performance in our schools,” he said.

Mvurya reaffirmed his commitment to the new course and pledged to double his efforts in supporting education programmes.”It is a great honour to receive such a massive responsibility from the coastal region teachers,” said Mr Mvurya.
