Sixty people among them 52 students, six teachers and two support staff have tested positive for COVID-19 at Salvation Army Kolanya Boys High School in Busia County.
The 60 positive cases were confirmed from 100 samples that were randomly picked for testing at the school.
Addressing the press on Tuesday, Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong said the positive cases have been isolated within the school and medical staff deployed to manage them.
The Governor added that the rest of the school fraternity has been quarantined within the school.
Governor Ojaamong disclosed that they have been carrying out testing at Alupe KEMRI laboratories, Busia County Referral Hospital and KEMRI CDC Kisumu.
He said the county’s isolation centres have handled a total of 2,016 cases, most of whom have been discharged, leaving only two patients under medical care.
The Governor announced that COVID-19 fatalities recorded in the county are distributed as follows: Bunyala Sub-county 4, Butula 2, Nambale, Samia, Teso North and Matayos recording one death each.
