ELECTIONS COVID 19 PROTOCOLS FOR THE KENVA NATIONAL UNION OF TEACHER (KNUT)

The above subject matter refers.

Please find attached the COVID19 Protocols to be observed during the upcoming KNUT General Elections.

Also attached is the Updated Elections Schedule for your necessary information.

Please, note that you are all required to go through the protocols keenly and ensure that the protocols are observed to the letter.

ELECTIONS COVID 19 PROTOCOLS FOR THE KENVA NATIONAL UNION OF TEACHERS – JANUARY  4TH TO JUNE 6TH, 2021

The scheduled elections for the  Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) will be conducted in strict adherence to Article(A), (B) and (C) of KNUT Constitution and Covid-19 protocols as outlined in the Legal Notice No. 58 of Public Health Laws of Kenya of April 7th, 2020.

1)    All nominations and elections of the Union officials shall be conducted as  provided for in the rules under the KNUT Constitution.

However, prospective candidates will be nominated at least three days to the election date, and their names forwarded to the Labour Office (Presiding Officer); and NOT on the floor as it has been the tradition before.   

This is to minimize interactions as demands Covid-19 containment measures.

2)   All  proposers will convert into Election Agents and shall man the ballot boxes during voting.

3)   Casting of votes will commence at 8.00 a.m. so Chief Agents must be present at the polling centres by 6.00 a.m.

4)   Voting will be conducted in the open field but secure with a perimeter fence at all polling centres.

s)   Every voter and aspiring candidate will be expected to have a pen for personal use to fill registration forms or use on any other election materials during the exercise.

6)   In  concurrence with WHO rules and regulations, voters or/and aspiring candidates who are sick or in quarantine ill be expected to protect poll  workers and  other voters.

This include wearing a mask, staying at least 6 feet away from others, and washing hands or using sanitizers  before  and   after  voting.  

They will be expected to let election officials know that they are infected by  Coronavirus or in quarantine once they arrive at the polling centre.

They will have to check with poll officials for any additional guidelines.

1)   Voters and aspirants, including election officials and security officers will avoid close contact try to stay at least 6  feet apart of other people.

s)   Wear masks during  the entire election exercise.

9)   Voters, aspirants, election officials and security officers will have to take care when touching surfaces and wash their hands after the exercise or if not possible, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

10) Sanitizers/hand washing points should be provided at the polling station both at the entry and exit points.

11)   Avoid crowds after casting vote.

12)   Limit celebrations after your candidate has been declared winner.

13)  Taking  children with you to vote can increase their risk of getting Covid-19.

14)  The more prepared you are for the polls, the less time you may have to spend at the voting centre.

1s) The more an individual interacts with others, and the longer that interaction, the higher the risk of Coid-19 spread hence, clear from the polling station immediately after casting the vote.

16)  Kenya National Police Service will take full charge of crowd control.

11)  Election results will be announced by the Presiding Officer in line with the guidelines that will be issued on the polling day.

18)  Thermo gun/medical officer of health shall ensure health protocols are fully observed.

19)  Strong Public Address System shall ensure effective communication hence helping to completely avoid any crowding.

ELECTIONS COVID 19 PROTOCOLS FOR THE KENVA NATIONAL UNION OF TEACHERS – JANUARY  4TH TO JUNE 6TH, 2021
