HAPPY WORLD TEACHERS DAY

Dr Nancy Macharia wishes all teachers a happy World Teachers Day today the 5th October, 2020.

TSC notes that as the Covid 19 pandemic redefines the way we work, our teachers are equal to the challenge and have devised creative ways of engaging learners in these changing times.

MESSAGE FROM TSC CEO DR NANCY MACHARIA

On behalf of TSC, I wish all teachers a happy World Teachers Day 2020.

Today we join the rest of the world and especially the teaching fraternity in marking this auspicious day in our noble profession of shaping the destiny of our country through  offering quality education.

Coming in a backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s World Teachers Day is very significant.

Our teachers have been front-line soldiers in sharing Ministry of Health  safety messages to learners and their communities.

Despite the pandemic, many teachers have been busy engaging learners in academics, life skills and guidance and counselling.

I wish to particularly recognize teacher Stephen Onditi for training learners on how to rear chicken in Homa Bay;

Elizabeth Kadzo for rescuing the girl child from early marriages in Utange, Mombasa; Joel  Kariuki for his art lesson to pupils in Nyeri;

Ben Owiti  from Kisumu for training leaners in football during the pandemic and Mary Wandia  Mwangi from Nyeri for coordinating the Support a Girl and Ngarisha Kijana Initiative by mobilizing funds from fellow teachers and well-wishers.

These are just but a few of the many teachers who have gone beyond the call of duty to heed this year’s World Teachers  Day theme  “Teachers Leading in crisis, re-imagining the future

Even so, the Commission is proud of all Kenyan teachers for staying safe and ensuring that their loved  are also safe.

Your efforts have contributed to the flattening of the curve.

Once we resume teaching, the Commission is confident that with your dedication and creativity  you will work  hard to make up for lost time.

We appreciate your dedication to duty and commit to continuously improve your welfare. Happy World Teachers Day.

MESSAGE FROM TSC CHAIRPERSON DR LYDIA NZOMO

Today, the 5th October  2020 we celebrate the World Teachers’  Day. The day provides the occasion to celebrate the teaching  profession worldwide, and to honor our teachers, the gifted souls who work tirelessly every day to make sure that the future of generations upon generations is preserved.

On this  beautiful occasion, I take this opportunity on behalf  of Teachers  Service Commission  Kenya, to convey our heartiest wishes to all teachers not only in Kenya, but the world over.

Throughout history, teachers have made invaluable contribution in shaping the destiny of humanity. They are the light of the world, the beacon in the dark and the hope that gives communities the world over strength to survive.

This  year, the World Teachers’ Day is being celebrated under the theme “Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future“. This theme is not just timely,  but is also critical in terms of the contributions teachers have made, and will continue to make in dealing with the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The pandemic has added to the many challenges faced by the already over stretched education systems, however  it has also presented unique opportunities  for teachers to provide leadership in relation to  response in crisis and help the world communities reimagine the future of education.

Teachers have made great contributions in providing remote learning and supporting  the vulnerable  in our society.

The Commission will continue to work with the teachers, and other stake holders in the education sector to protect the right to education.

I do hope that during this WTD, there will also be conversations on the role of teachers  in building  resilience and applying technology in shaping the future of education and the teaching profession.

Teachers will remain at the core of the efforts to attain the global education target of leaving no one behind.

Once again, I would like to extend my gratitude to every teacher for selfless service and dynamic support. We are always grateful to you.
