Thousands of teachers ready and prepared for zonal CBC training to kick off today

Thousands of teachers across the country will be attending CBC training to kick off today. The trainings which will start today 19/8/2019 upto 23/8/2019 will be conducted in all sub counties in Kenya with teachers attending them according to their zones

In April the training was partially disrupted after the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) instructed their members to boycott the training. Some Knut officials took to the venues and evicted teachers from the ongoing training, this prompted TSC to issue interdiction letters to hundreds of teachers who failed to attedn and to Knut officials who took part in causing chaos in the training centres.

More than two hundred teachers are still in the cold with their fate lying with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) after Knut withdrew their case from the Courts and handed them over to TSC disciplinary team cause it would have taken too long to be concluded.

Last week during the opening of the third National Conference on Curriculum Reforms held at the Kenya International Convention Centre (KICC) Nairobi, Knut officials were barred from attending the event.

Knut has been at loggerheads with the state over CBC with the former calling its members to revert back to 8.4.4 syllabus and ignore the new curriculum citing inadequate preparations and lack of involvement. The secretary general Mr. Wilson Sossion said after checking on the delegates list, their names were missing.

“We are not on the list and there is no badge so we cant attend!” said Sossion

TSC CEO Nancy Macharia said that the commission is determined to see the curriculum roll out and implementation successful. She said that the commission aims at training 225,000 by December this year .

Other unions for teachers like Kuppet which represents post primary school teachers and Kewota which is an association for female teachers have supported the rollout of the new Curriculum.
