TSC turns to prayers as CEO Mitei warns rogue officers

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has today 13th January, 2026 carried out prayers that were held at the TSC Headquarters at Upper Hill, Nairobi.

The prayers day was under the theme “Pressing on to a higher mark” and were led by TSC acting CEO Eveleen Mitei.

The occasion was well attended including by top TSC Commissioners and Chairperson Jamleck Muturi and ran from 8:00am to 11:00am.

All TSC Regional Directors and secretariat staff at the counties were following the exercise online.

In her speech Mitei thanked TSC staff for the great work they did in 2025. She thanked Mwalimu Welfare Association for funding the exercise.

However Mitei reigned on rogue officers who are only concerned on disciplining teachers but lack focus on how to better learner performance in schools.

“Leadership without prayer becomes pride. Work without faith becomes mechanical,” said Mitei during her speech.

She said the Commission exists to serve learners who she termed them as their ultimate focus.

“The learner in Mandera matters just as the learner in Nairobi. That child in Turkana is just as important to us as the learners in Nairobi”

“Some of us think our work is just to manage teachers, we just discipline teachers. We account for money or perform some audit function on what we have done and earn a salary”

“This we do but then I want to emphasize we are here for the learners of this country. We are here to provide teachers for those learners”

“We are here to ensure those teachers are serving the learners in the classroom. And the accurate measure of our productivity is the quality of the learning outcomes that the teachers will deliver”

“When learners succeed is because they did there job well. When they struggle is because it started somewhere here”

At the same time TSC secretariat staff have pushed for their on Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and welfare.

Mitei acknowledged their wishes and saying the Career Progression Guidelines (CPG) 2023 was adopted after a job analysis was done.

She assured them that in 2026 their welfare and job evaluation will be the primary focus of the Commission.
