TSC sets documents verification date for P1 teachers to be deployed

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has set the date when it will start verification of documents process for PTE teachers seeking deployment to junior secondary.

Last week the Commission opened online application portal for P1 teachers with Degree and Diploma secondary option to apply.

According to the Commission the application exercise will end on 6th February 2023 which will be on Monday next week.

TSC asked those meeting the requirements to use the link https://tsconline.tsc.go.ke/tsc-teacher/login to submit their details online.

However TSC said only teachers serving under permanent and pensionable terms in public primary schools to apply.

Now the Commission has set 7th February 2023 as the date when documents for practicing P1 teachers who applied for deployment to junior secondary will start.

The physical verification of documents will be done at the various TSC Sub Directors offices.

Some of the documents that will be required for verification include the academic certificates like KCSE, PTE, Degree and Diploma certificates, Appointment letter, Leaving certificates and transcripts among others.

Teachers with Degree and Diploma certificates from foreign universities must issue clearance from the Commission for University Education.

The Commission has also asked teachers applying for deployment but are not found in Teacher Management Information System (TMIS) to liase with their Sub County offices and ICT officers for assistance.

Some teachers have complained that applying for deployment is not possible because their details are not on TMIS.

Schools which do not have TSC code are not on TMIS and this hampers application process for the teachers.

Some teachers have been temporarily added to other schools TMIS to allow them apply for the jobs.

REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION FOR DEPLOYMENT

1. At least a C+ (Plus) mean grade at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent

2. At least grade C+ (Plus) in the two teaching subjects at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent

3. At least 8 Units in each of the two teaching subjects

4. Must be serving as a primary school teacher under TSC

TSC is currently seeking enough teachers to help teach the over 1.26 Grade 7 learners.

The Commission has recruited 30,550 teachers who will serve in junior secondary school section.

Of these 9,000 posts are on Permanent and Pensionable Terms while 21,550 posts are for Teacher Interns.

There are approximately 27,000 public junior secondary schools approved by the Ministry of Education.

Some schools have more than one stream for Grade 7 learners which makes the teacher: learner ratio a complicated issue.
