At least 14,000 teachers will begin the new term in new schools after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) approved their applications for regional and inter regional transfers authorised by CEO Nancy Macharia.
The approvals come before the lapsing of the deadline given to the TSC by the National Assembly’s committee on education to reverse the delocalization policy that saw teachers posted away from their homes.
The teachers have to report to their new stations before schools open on the 23rd of this month.
The change of guard in schools across the country is starting ahead of the opening of the first term of this academic year.
At Kamusinga High School, one principal gives way to another. While the new principal is getting the office on acting capacity, other secondary schools will be receiving new principals by 16th January, that is next Monday.
TSC is undertaking mass transfers of teachers both at primary and secondary schools under the reversal of the delocalization policy that has been in existence since 2017.
In a circular the commission’s Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia has instructed the commission’s secretary and all regional directors to facilitate the transfers of 14,613 teachers to new stations before the schools re-open on the 23rd of this month.
Of these, 10,934 transfers will affect primary school teachers, while 189 deputy head teachers will be transferred, and 1,948 head teachers will be changing stations.
Another 1,316 secondary school teachers and 226 principals will also be beneficiaries of the transfers.
The TSC had been given until the end of this month to allow teachers to serve in their own regions, a departure from the policy instituted by the commission that demanded that delocalised teachers serve at least three years in the Northern Eastern region, and five years in other regions before qualifying for a transfer.
A total of 12,019 transfers will be conducted at the regional level by the TSC regional directors, 2,594 transfers will be inter-regional transfers effected from the national headquarters.
While moving the teachers, the officers both at the regional and national headquarters will consider gender balance, the age and health of the teachers and the teachers disability in placing them in their new schools.
The transfers are the first annual teacher transfers to be conducted by the TSC since the COVID-19 pandemic led to a halt in the exercise.
It is also the largest number of transfers to be undertaken by the TSC in years, effectively bringing to an end the controversial delocalization polity that had caused friction between teachers, the TSC and the teachers’ unions.

Can’t see this list you’re saying. Please we long to have our families close. Teachers are teaching with divided minds, one in school and the other is thinking when to meet the family members and the salary is too little to enable them see their beloved ones within a week or two weeks time. This delocalization programme has made young families to part from their marriages.

No list no transfers we are just being taken around in circus. I hate this profession. Ones tireless efforts are never recognized.

Some. are examiners so I don’t know how they went about this or if there will be punitive measures taken against them. Some also applied for transfer like the rest over 14k but so far there is no list indicating who is transferring where. Can the TSC please do something on this because everybody is no child here.

Am eagerly waiting for the letter because life hasn’t been easy since we were delocalized. We’ve gone through a fierce Storm and 🔥.its my prayer it will be effected.

I check out on daily basis whether mine has been approved…… I am hoping that by the end of this week there will be light.
May God Almighty help the one who came out with this delocalisation policy to repent the sin of breaking marriages and leaving innocent children desperate.At the end of the day it’s children who suffer when the bosses are comfortable up there delocalising day in day out.
May God surely intervene, we’ve really suffered psychologically, physically,emotionally and economically. Please do something we are running short of patience and anxiety is killing us imagine since 2017 out in the cold.
