The Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) has come out clear on payment of teachers who will man the 2022 Grade 6 national assessment.
The Grade 6 learners will have their final assessment in primary school this month of November.
The multiple choice exams known as Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will start and end same day as KCPE exams.
This year Knec will use teachers in administration of 2022 KCPE, KPSEA, KCSE and DECTE exams and assessments.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has already vetted and will deploy at least 250,000 teachers as centre managers, supervisors, invigilators and examiners.
Around 1,268,830 Grade 6 learners will sit for KPSEA exams and 1,230,000 candidates for KCPE exams while Form 4 for KCSE are about 880,000.
There was some confusion among teachers who were selected to oversee the KPSEA exams. The teachers were not sure if they will be paid and at what rates.
However Knec sources now say the teachers as well as other contracted professionals i.e. security personnel and drivers will be paid same rate as those who will administer KCPE exams.
The confusion arose more so because KPSEA exams will not have Composition and Insha writings which will be done by KCPE candidates. Some teachers have also been contracted for the first time.
Knec officials now say the teachers will be said same rates as those who will be in charge of the KCPE candidates.
KCPE and KPSEA exams will start and end same day. The exams will start on 28th November and end on 30th November 2022. The candidates will also have a rehearsal day on 25th November.
This week Knec also released a circular ordering only a number of people to be allowed within exam centres.
Knec has authorized only the following persons to be in the examination centres during KPSEA, KCPE and KCSE exam period
1 Centre Manager;
2 Deputy Principal/Headteacher;- where an examination centre has more than one deputy then the centre manager shall designate one deputy to assist him/her;
3 Supervisor(s);
4 Invigilator(s);
5 Gatekeeper;
6 Laboratory technician and science teacher only during practicals;
7 Authorized support staff to prepare meals for candidates who will strictly restrict their movements to the Kitchen.

I was a supervisor in makueni county makindu subcounty kalakalya primary school and was not paid for the 2021 kcpe .Help
The payment is too little looking the inflation rate.
Teachers are getting paid peanuts to supervise and invigilate these knec exams.
What about the deputy head teacher? Why will they not be paid when others are?
Center managers are paid ksh 500 per day, what about Deputy Headteachers who are also expected to be in school during the exams.
Is that per day payment or whole pay?
Best of luck to our learners.
Best of luck to all learners especially kpsea
