The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has paid July salaries and allowances to its over 315,000 teachers on the payroll.
Already some banks and saccos have effected the salary payments in teachers accounts. These include KCB bank, National bank and Family bank.
Some teachers have confirmed receiving the July salaries with arrears. TSC has also moved a number of teachers from one job group to another.
Teachers who have completed three years in one job group have now been placed in a new one according to Career Progression Guidelines (CPG).
Those who have benefited immensely from this July increment are school administrators. These include senior teachers, deputy headteachers, headteachers and principals.
However a number of classroom teachers are frustrated because there are no positive changes in the just paid salaries.
The Commission had listed six job groups where school administrators belong that will earn salary increment with arrears this July.
According to TSC these teachers are eligible for payrise because they have not reached their maximum salary points popularly known as ‘bar according to the CBA 2017 -2021 terms.
TSC says grades C4, C5, D1, D2, D3 and D4 have not yet attained the maximum salary points provided for in the CBA 2017 – 2021 salary banding.
TSC says it will extend the salary points for these grades starting 1st July 2020.
The Commission will pay the teachers their salary increment with arrears from the date they attained the maximum salary point to January 2022.
“The arrears will be processed by July 2022 when funds become available,” said the Commission.

According to the table above grade C4, C5, D1 and D4 the elongated salary scale points are from point three to seven.
While grades D2 and D3 the elongated salary scale points are from point two to seven. The arrears will be paid this month.
However TSC says teachers in grades B5, C1, C2, C3 and D5 will not get payrise because they are not eligible according to the CBA 2017 -2021 terms.
TSC says the teachers have reached their maximum salary points and therefore it will not be possible for their salaries to progress upward.
“Grades B5, C1, C2, C3, and D5 have reached the maximum salary points provided for in the banding by the completion of the cycle for CBA 2017 – 2021,” said Nancy Macharia in the document.

Classroom teachers can however wait for Knut, Kuppet and TSC to strike a salary deal by reviewing the non-monetary CBA they signed in July last year.

I read with interest in regard to the teachers pay rise. PLEASE do inform teachers ABOUT exact date of these payment and the exact date of payment.
What about those of us who graduated with a Bachelor degree from Universities without any teaching qualifications but are currently teaching in various high and secondary schools. Are we going to be on pay or should there be any additional requirements in order for us to be on pay? Need clear explanation on that matter.

There are classroom teachers who have stayed in L/C3 for more than 15years,they attained the ceiling 12year ago and yet the tsc cannot see that.

I was never given anything. Not even a shilling. C4 for 5 years but never reached the bar and I wasn’t captured for the same. No previous arrears at all.
Now at C5 , will they consider my previous arrears now that they skipped on me? We wonder the criteria used but anyway, we just surrender all to God to vindicate us. That’s all.
