Primary school headteachers have officially been issued with deployment letters to act as junior secondary school Principals.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has this week through its Sub County Directors issued the school heads with the letters which makes the management mandate official.
TSC did not look at the headteachers qualification one was issued with deployment letters provided he/she had junior secondary domiciled at the school.
Whether junior secondary will have other administrators soon its still a puzzle. There are still numerous vacancies to be filled in this category of school.
These include Senior Master Position, Deputy Principal, Heads of Departments among others.
At the same time the Commission through its social media platforms made an announcement that the application for deployment for primary school teachers is reactivated and will go on till 22nd March.
“The Commission has extended the period of application for deployment to Junior Secondary Schools. The portal has been re-opened. Primary school teachers with requisite qualifications are encouraged to apply. Use the following link https://tsconline.tsc.go.ke/tsc-teacher/login to access the portal. Deadline for application is 22nd March 2023,” said TSC.
This is to allow many PTE teachers who were locked out of the exercise in the first round. Already the first cohorts had their documents verified and those successful were issued with posting letters.
The deployed teachers start at job group C2 where they will serve for a period of three years before being moved automatically to job group C3.
Salary for a deployed C2 teacher
Basic salary 34,955
House allowance (other areas) 7,500
Hardship 10,900
Commuter 5,000
Leave(paid only in January) 6,000
However TSC has now lowered the requirements for deployment to junior secondary. This is to allow teachers with pre-university qualifications to submit applications.
The Commission says practicing P1 teachers who got pre-university qualification on or before 31st December, 2015 should be considered for deployment to junior secondary.
This means those teachers who joined university with KCSE mean grade of C (plain) but did bridging course before pursuing degree are qualified to teach Grade 7,8 and 9 learners.
TSC is however yet to lower the requirements to allow primary school teachers with other Diploma and Degree certificates like those with primary option.
The Commission says primary School teachers wishing to be deployed to JSS must be qualified to teach in secondary schools. The teacher MUST meet the following requirements:
i) Have an active registration as a teacher with the Teachers Service Commission.
ii) Is employed as a primary school teacher with the Teachers Service Commission.
iii) Should not be currently serving an interdiction or undergoing a disciplinary process.
iv) Have a minimum of a Diploma in Education with a minimum of C+ at KCSE (or it’s equivalent) with C+ in two teaching subjects currently being offered in the school curriculum (either under 8-4-4 or CBC) or two (2) principles and one (1) subsidiary pass at “A” Level.
Those with a minimum of C (plain) at KCSE (or its equivalent) and have undertaken a Diploma in Education together with a Bachelor Degree in Education qualify.
v) The degree certificate must be Bachelor of Education. Bachelor of Education (Primary Option) holders are not eligible.
vi) Must have expressed interest to be deployed to Junior Secondary School and their name is in the list shared from the Headquarters.
Candidates are expected to present the following documents during verification exercise:
i) Original and copy of the degree/diploma certificate;
ii) Original and copies of the academic transcripts;
iii) Original and copy of SNE qualification (where applicable);
iv) Original and copy of the KCSE certificate (or its equivalent);
v) A copy of the current payslip;
vi) A declaration by the Head of Institution that the teacher is currently serving in the school and is neither serving an interdiction nor undergoing a disciplinary process.
A good move by TSC….. praying hard for jss to settle soon and all critics against it will end.
Hii yenye haina qualifications si iko sawa aki😂😂
It’s a good move by the TSC but still requesting them to consider other degrees like ECDE.we used our resources to upgrade our education and the wounds of finances which were left since 2014 are still there.Try surely and promote us even if it’s not taking us to JSS.I personally will be grateful.
Will deputy head teachers also get letters to be deputy principals in jss
Some heads have D+ and no degrees and us with other degrees are being left in the cold our God have mercy on us.
Na bado, you will have to lower it further. Those people you are looking for retired long time ago. Have your records correct. You are confused at your own job. Pole Sana.
praying that all teachers who upgraded their education to be promoted.
Tsc to look at the Dep Htrs coz they are also assisting the Htrs in the administration of the JSS.
Tsc to look at the fate of the Dep. Htrs coz they are also assisting the Htrs in the administration of JSS.
Deputy headteachers are playing akey role in management of JSS,Don’t they too deserve to be appointed and deployed as part of JSS administration officially?
Primary school deputy htrs should also be promoted to deputy principals.
Qualified Deputy Headteachers should also be considered and be deployed to JSS with the headteachers since they work together in the administration and running of the school. They are implementing the JSS together.
A D1 headteacher becomes a principal while several secondary School teachers have D2 D3 and loting deputy principals of over 10 yrs in D1.To move to next grade one has to do an interview. Some have done more than 2 interviews without qualifying. Why couldn’t the deputy principals be promoted. The commission is unjust.
The deputy heads who still acts in school should at least be confirmed and promoted as deputy principal. Ama sio????
Some of us did diploma in ECDE with high grades in our KCSE.We are capable of handling those subjects we excelled in kcse please consider us.
Most of us have degree in PRIMARY option, situation that was initiated when the TSC declared at one point no crossing to secondary,we were forced to drop our units to comply to the call after learning for 2 semesters.
It’s seriously painful.
Let Tsc consider us too.
What about teachers who have upgraded their p1 certificates to diploma, TSC can you try to be fair
….and the last CBA still favoured them. Classroom teachers now look like beggars Infront of their head teachers.
Ati deputy to be deployed officially to jss😂😂😂😂
Next senior teachers will start saying to be deployed as the deans in jss🤣🤣
Finally all primary school teachers will claim for the roles they play.
Si mgonje jss ipate nguvu ya kubeba hawa watu wote and then we board in turns😂😂😂😂
Those with degree in ECDE and primary option should be considered also for deployment, we used alot of money to invest in that degree
Heads with PTE certificate can be transferred to to head primary Schools without JSS. Those with higher qualifications to be retained and confirmed as principals of JSS. Same to deputies with higher qualifications.
TSC need also bridge the between C5 and D1. Principals at C5 with master’s or PhD should be moved to D3.
Those with Diplomas and degrees at @D1 and 2 respectively.
Deputies to begin at C5 …those with degrees.
Consider the teachers of the old system 0 level and passed well with DIV l and ll please. It’s unfair to disqualify them because they didn’t do A level yet they have degrees and masters. Can someone hear our cry. DIV l=A, while DIV ll =B. Then with degrees and masters what other qualifications are you looking for??
Allow teachers who meet academic qualifications ie C+ with C+ in areas of specialization currently employed by Tsc but yet to enroll in universities.
Everytime classroom teachers gets raw deal. Yet they are the people doing donkey business. And you expect to succeed???
What about P I with Diploma in Special Needs Education
Tsc should consider when one finished his KCSE imagine 1994 a mean grade of C plain was valuable yet we have tried to upgrade upto degree in ECD please have mercy on us tsc
The form four grade has never been a qualification for teaching anywhere. One must go to either a TTC or a university for a training. When a teacher has qualified from the higher learning institutions, why again does the TSC go back to form four qualifications for employment to JSS yet this person was enrolled in a university and graduated with good grades? Do the form four grades tell a good teacher or the qualifications from the colleges? This TSC is messing up teachers no wonder the TTCs are almost closing down. Take the teachers with degrees to teach in JSS regardless of their form four qrades. These Headteachers they promote so much didn’t even go to school like the classroom teachers
Kindly inform, I did apply to jss deployment earlier in January, and could not secure a chance. I wished to reapply only to be disappointed since I could not access the application portal. How can I get to know if my name is in the list from the headquarters
