President Uhuru Kenyatta has convened the sixth Extraordinary Session of the National and County Governments Co-ordinating Summit to be held on Wednesday next week to review the resurgence of COVID-19 infections in the country.
State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena-Mararo said the session was convened in light of the fact that Kenya has recorded its highest number of COVID-19 monthly fatalities in October.
“The session shall consider the evolution of the disease as well as the epidemiological models on how COVID-19 may propagate within our country over the months of November and December 2020,” she said in a statement on Wednesday.
“The session shall also review the efficacy of the containment measures in place, as well as the impact of the easing of the restrictions that were in place.”
President Kenyatta has also called on all Kenyans to continue applying individual and collective measures saying those are the country’s best weapons against the pandemic.
“Kenyans should continue to wear face masks correctly while in public spaces, apply correct hand hygiene at all times, and adhere with the physical and social distancing guidelines and protocols that have been put in place to safeguard our individual and collective health and safety,” the statement adds.
“By doing so, Kenyans will ensure that our Nation does not lose the hard-fought for ground secured in the fight against COVID-19, and also that our Nation shall not be compelled to roll-back the easing of the restrictions that Kenyans enjoy today.”
I think many people are trashing the covid-19 infections and putting down their guard against it. Teachers are the best role models in observing Covid-19 protocols. They are now on the front line when engaging learners in schools.
Social distancing is the greatest challenge in schools even with the small number of learners. learners are excited to see their teachers and experience school environment again.
Just like the medics are on the front line in fighting against Covid-19 are provided with protective gear, so should teachers be provided by the basic face masks. Otherwise, it will be a mission in futility to expose the trained educators to risky environment. No hard feelings against anyone, just mind your neighbour.
Thank you.
