VACANCIES IN THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, LIBRARIES AND VTCS

POSITION: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION JG CPSB 05 ‘P’

Number of Posts: One (1)

Terms of Service: Four (4) Years Contract

Basic Salary Scale: As provided for by the Salaries and Remunerations Commission

Requirements for Appointment

1.  Be a Kenyan Citizen;

2.  Have served in a similar or equivalent position in the Directorate of ECDE;

3.  Minimum of a Bachelor  of Education degree in Early Childhood Development or any other relevant and related degree from a recognized university;

4.  Masters of  Education  degree in Early Childhood Development or any other relevant postgraduate degree from a recognized university will be an added advantage.

5.  Shown exemplary leadership and management skills in ECDE programmes;

6.  Have demonstrated a clear understating of ECDE national and county frame work, policies, goals and objectives;

7.  Demonstrate competence, merit and ability as reflected on work performance and results;

8.  Satisfy the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution;

9.  Demonstrate a high degree of administrative and professional competence;

10. Have Certificate in computer application from a recognized institution; and,

11. Must have a TSC Number.

Duties and Responsibilities

1.  Operations and administration of the Directorate of Early Chilhood Development and Education (ECDE);

2.  Coordination and implementation of policies and plans;

3.  Organizing for capacity building of ECDE staff and Coordinating ECDE activities in the county;

4.  Develop assessment programs for ECDE teachers and caregivers;

5.  Coordinating and facilitating external examination processes and documentation;

6.  Developing a County Resource Centre for ECDE programmes;

7.  Initiating research in the ECDE field and developing appropriate intervention;

8.  Preparing  ECDE  strategies and giving technical advice  and  guidance to personnel in lower cadres;

9.  Supervising Sub-County ECDE Programme Officers in the County;

10. Organizing refresher courses for ECDE teachers, caregivers and stakeholders;

11. Organizing regular research on child care practices and emerging issues;

12. Organizing  for  assessments  of  potential  ECDE  centres  for  the  purpose  of registration;

13. Ensuring quality and standard coverage of ECDE curriculum through regular supervisory visits to teachers in ECDE centres;

14. Liaising with various stakeholders to ensure that all children of appropriate age are enrolled and attend ECDE centre;

15. Organizing co-curriculum activities for ECDE children;

16. Ensuring adherence in the use of authorized textbooks and other curriculum materials in ECDE centres; and,

17. Any other duty assigned by the County Chief Officer in-charge of Education, Libraries and VTCs.

POSITION:  SENIOR EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION

TEACHER III (ECDE SUPERVISOR) JG CPSB 11 ‘H’

Number of Posts: Six (6)

Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable

Basic Salary Scale: As provided for  by the Salaries and Remunerations Commission

Requirements for Appointment

1. Be a Kenyan Citizen;

2. Be a holder of at least a Diploma in Early Childhood Development and Education from a recognized institution;

3. Have knowledge experience and a distinguished career related to ECDE of not less than three (3) years;

4. A Degree in the relevant field applied for will be an added advantage;

5. Must be computer literate; and,

6. Must have a TSC Number.

Duties and responsibilities

1.  Supervising ECDE teachers and caregivers in the zone(s);

2.  Monitoring curriculum implementation at the zonal level;

3.  Collecting, maintain  and submitting ECDE statistical data to  the sub county program officer;

4.  Co-ordinating and liaising with the stakeholders in ECDE in the zone(s);

5.  Supervising zone based programs that cater for the total development of children less than six (6) years; and,

6.  Creating and promoting awareness on ECDE needs and demands to the local communities and parents.
