Bandits kill a primary school teacher in Turkana

A primary school teacher was Wednesday morning shot dead while two Administration Police officers sustained severe injuries after they were attacked by armed bandits in Turkana County.

Turkana County Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi said the teacher was heading home to Lokori village after schools closed for mid-term, and had sought transport in the police vehicle when they were attacked.

The area, according to the police boss, lacks public service transport due to insecurity and poor road network in the area.

The police commander said security reinforcement has been deployed in the area to pursue the armed bandits.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), through their Turkana Branch Chairman Kenyaman Ariong’oa, condemned the incident, urging Interior CS Fred Matiang’i to urgently come up with a proper solution to the worsening insecurity situation at the border.
