They don’t travel, Knec says won’t pay deputy heads cp2 exam dues

Deputy primary school headteachers will not get travel expenses stipend paid by Knec to contracted professionals who include teachers, drivers, and security personnel.

A Knec official has hinted that the deputy school heads will not get the dues because they don’t incur travel expenses during the KCPE and KPSEA exam period.

Knec pays teachers who serve as supervisors, invigilators and centre managers for the exams. Teachers are also contracted as examiners for marking of these national exams.

In this years exams, deputy headteachers were used as centre managers for the grade 6 KPSEA exams.

In a new rule this year, the deputy headteachers were required to remain in school for the KCPE and KPSEA exams.

Previously the deputy headteachers were not required to be around school compound during these exams.

This saw many deputy heads applying and get contracted as supervisors and invigilators of the national exams.

The deputies have not been required to register their details on Knec CP2 platform meaning they are not going to be paid.

During the examination period Knec allowed only a number of people inside exam centres. The measures are aimed to curb exam malpractices.

Knec authorized only the following persons to be in the examination centres during KPSEA, KCPE and KCSE exam periods.

1 Centre Manager;

2 Deputy Principal/Headteacher;- where an examination centre has more than one deputy then the centre manager shall designate one deputy to assist him/her;

3 Supervisor(s);

4 Invigilator(s);

5 Gatekeeper;

6 Laboratory technician and science teacher only during practicals;

7 Authorized support staff to prepare meals for candidates who will strictly restrict their movements to the Kitchen.

Around 1,415,315 candidates sat for KCPE exam, while another 1,282,574 did the grade 6 KPSEA exams.
