RE: LETTER OF INVITATION TO MARK 2021 KCSE EXAMINATION
1.0 The Kenya National Examinations Council is pleased to inform you that you have been invited to participate in the 2021 KCSE marking exercise of 313/1 as an Examiner
2.0 If you accept the invitation, you will be expected to report to the Chief Examiner and your roles shall include but not limited to the following:
2.1 Attending and participating in the briefing and coordination meetings. No examiner will be allowed to mark if he/she has not attended and participated in the coordination exercise;
2.2 Marking live answer scripts with accuracy through the CBS system where applicable;
2.3 Carefully reading and applying the Marking Regulations;
2.4 Observing marking discipline and actively being engaged in the work allocated to you;
2.5 Checking, cross-checking and transferring of marks/scores accurately from answer scripts to mark sheets;
2.6 Participating in the adjudication of marks captured under the supervision of your Team Leader and taking responsibility by signing on the mark sheets and the script control forms;
2.7 Completing claim forms for answer scripts marked and submitting the forms and answer scripts to the Team Leader before leaving the marking room;
2.8 Ensuring that no candidates’ answer scripts, marking scheme, question papers and/or dummies are taken out of the marking room for any reason whatsoever; and
2.9 Preparing preliminary reports on the work of the relevant candidates to be submitted to the Team leader for study and necessary advice given to the Chief Examiner for incorporation into the main confidential report on the work of candidates.
3.0 General Ethical Conduct expected of all Examiners: –
3.1 Conducting yourself with integrity,diligence, professionalism, dignity and decorum while at the marking centres;
3.2 Desisting from any activity which may slow or disrupt the marking exercise;
3.3 Being present in the marking room at all times while marking is in progress;
3.4 Concealing your identity as an examiner so as to avoid lobbying or influence from any interested parties;
3.5 Maintaining confidentiality in the assigned tasks;
3.6 Meeting set targets during the marking exercise;
3.7 Refraining from holding any unauthorized meetings. Only the Chief Examiner is authorized to call for meetings during the marking exercise; and
3.8 Desisting from sharing any information regarding the marking centres and the marking process with any media, on any media platform or on any social media.
Note: your future engagements in marking will depend on how well you observe the set standards , rules and regulations of marking KNEC examinations.
4.0 General Information to all examiners:-
4.1 Compliance to MOH COVID-19 protocols and guidelines: All examiners will be expected to carry adequate quality facemasks as personal effects;
maintain social distance in all areas throughout the marking period; wash hands with soap and/or use sanitizer at all times.
4.2 Those who are 58 years and above and/or with underlying conditions are advised to take extra precautions during the marking period.
4.3 Examiners who are breastfeeding are advised not to report for marking since KNEC does not make any arrangement for babies and their helpers. In addition, marking is strictly residential and therefore such examiners will not be allowed to commute. Examiners are encouraged to defer marking until when they are ready to participate in the exercise.
4.4 Expectant examiners are equally advised to defer marking for their own safety due to heavy tasks involved until such a time when they are ready to resume marking.
5.0 You are expected to report at LORETO GIRLS LIMURU on 5th April, 2022 from 2 pm for coordinationand marking. You are requestedto carry a passport size photograph which will be affixed to a name tag for identification, and which should be displayed all the time during the marking period.
Please note that you will remain in the same centre for the actual marking exercise and that marking of all KNEC examinations is strictly residential to all examiners.
6.0 You will be paid a co-ordination fee of Kes. 150.00 per day, a basic fee of Kes 1,100.00, scripts fee at the rate of Kes. 55 per scriptand travel based on your work station.
The scripts rate takes care of all marking related activities including and not limited to the actual marking of scripts, entry of scores on mark sheets, cross checking, adjudication and report writing.
7.0 Payments to all contracted professionals shall be taxed in accordance with the PAYE regulations/guidelines.
Examiners will be charged a withholding tax at 5% for any payment above Kes. 24,000. Subsequently, only those who reach this threshold will be taxed.
8.0 Marking instructions to all examiners which will form the basis of a contract between the examiner and KNEC are available through the link www.knec.ac.ke/mi.
Please read them carefully. If you accept the conditions given in the Instructions for this year’s marking, click the accept offer button below (highlighted in green) latest by 23rd March, 2022.
If you do not accept, click the reject offer button (highlighted in red) and give the reason.
You are also required to upload onto your portal a digital photograph and scanned ID card.
9.0 Finally, please note that failure to respond by the said date will indicate non-availability and you will therefore be replaced.
