The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has made some changes in its second round of deployment of primary school teachers.
The Commission is still facing serious teacher shortage in the junior secondary school section.
Yesterday the Commission through its social media platforms made an announcement that the application is reactivated and will go on till 22nd March.
“The Commission has extended the period of application for deployment to Junior Secondary Schools. The portal has been re-opened. Primary school teachers with requisite qualifications are encouraged to apply. Use the following link https://tsconline.tsc.go.ke/tsc-teacher/login to access the portal. Deadline for application is 22nd March 2023,” said TSC.
This is to allow many PTE teachers who were locked out of the exercise in the first round. Already the first cohorts had their documents verified and those successful were issued with posting letters.
The deployed teachers start at job group C2 where they will serve for a period of three years before being moved automatically to job group C3.
Salary for a deployed C2 teacher
Basic salary 34,955
House allowance (other areas) 7,500
Hardship 10,900
Commuter 5,000
Leave(paid only in January) 6,000
However TSC has now lowered the requirements for deployment to junior secondary. This is to allow teachers with pre-university qualifications to submit applications.
The Commission says practicing P1 teachers who got pre-university qualification on or before 31st December, 2015 should be considered for deployment to junior secondary.
This means those teachers who joined university with KCSE mean grade of C (plain) but did bridging course before pursuing degree are qualified to teach Grade 7,8 and 9 learners.
TSC is however yet to lower the requirements to allow primary school teachers with other Diploma and Degree certificates like those with primary option.
The Commission says primary School teachers wishing to be deployed to JSS must be qualified to teach in secondary schools. The teacher MUST meet the following requirements:
i) Have an active registration as a teacher with the Teachers Service Commission.
ii) Is employed as a primary school teacher with the Teachers Service Commission.
iii) Should not be currently serving an interdiction or undergoing a disciplinary process.
iv) Have a minimum of a Diploma in Education with a minimum of C+ at KCSE (or it’s equivalent) with C+ in two teaching subjects currently being offered in the school curriculum (either under 8-4-4 or CBC) or two (2) principles and one (1) subsidiary pass at “A” Level.
Those with a minimum of C (plain) at KCSE (or its equivalent) and have undertaken a Diploma in Education together with a Bachelor Degree in Education qualify.
v) The degree certificate must be Bachelor of Education. Bachelor of Education (Primary Option) holders are not eligible.
vi) Must have expressed interest to be deployed to Junior Secondary School and their name is in the list shared from the Headquarters.
Candidates are expected to present the following documents during verification exercise:
i) Original and copy of the degree/diploma certificate;
ii) Original and copies of the academic transcripts;
iii) Original and copy of SNE qualification (where applicable);
iv) Original and copy of the KCSE certificate (or its equivalent);
v) A copy of the current payslip;
vi) A declaration by the Head of Institution that the teacher is currently serving in the school and is neither serving an interdiction nor undergoing a disciplinary process.
Good move….. Thanks TSC🙏
What about those teachers who have diplomas e.g guidance and counseling and they proceeded to degrees with teaching subjects?
Those with BED Early childhood Education and had scored C plus and above. Why can’t you consider us
Where is the place for those who did diploma in special needs education.
My suggestion to tsc is that tsc to consider teachers who scored C+ in kcse first even if they’ve not done any diploma and they be asked to register in colleges or universities that tsc may advice so that they can be trained during holidays the way they’ve been doing in TPD1 and this story will be heard no more
I wish Tsc would just consider even those with c+ and have other degrees
I had 1principle in Geography C and2 subsidiaries. Presently placed in C1
What about teachers with C+ and above and with bachelor in education Primary Option. This is hatred and away of killing the morale of these teachers. Psychological torture.
And teachers without bridging
The same primary school teachers you hate are the same taking care of JSS in various primary schools. I have a C+ and a BED Primary Option and feeling demoralized, frustrated and demotivated. ” ( Primary Option is not eligible)” This clause kills me more any time I come across it
Why do you forget teachers who did KCE and had division three with bachelor of education. Give direction please
lower to all degree in education like primary option and Ecde with kcse c+
Please consider also P1 teachers with KCSE mean grade of C+ and ECDE DIPLOMA
I am pleading with TSC officials who are supposed to approve our regional transfers to kindly transfer me through this deployment.
Kindly don’t post me a fresh to this county that I have been for almost 6 years and I am desperate coz I thought by this time I would have left.
This evil and cruel delocalisation policy has left our families in tatters.Even if I make all my learners to pass in flying colours when I have neglected my own children as a result of being forced to work away from them,What will I have gained in this life?
Kwani this devilish policy murdered humanity such that no one can listen to a teacher who is almost to go to depression simply because of something which can be solved and work continues comfortably?
I just want to be rerouted back to my husband and children…….pliz.
Was this delocalisation policy meant to make sure that teachers die early as a result of stress and depression?
Then in reality what does TSC do immediately a teacher dies? They replace the teacher even before burial and his/her family is left struggling, children left destitute and the spouse is no longer remembered.
Approve my transfer and take me back home!!!!!
Consider serving teachers with university entry to go to junior secondary and give in service courses
If the qualifications have been lowered then let the system be set too for them to apply ,jss shortage will be a forgotten thing
Update the system too to allow them apply isikue Ni kusema to tuuu
Set the system too to allow them apply,
Reset the system too, thanks tsc
Reset the system too for them to apply
Consider those with C+ meangrade and C+ in two teaching subjects with PTE certificate. We shall do credible job
How I wish long teaching experience would also be considered for JSS
Let TSC consider KCSE Cplain mean grade and C plus in two teaching subjects at university.
Primary option degrees have above C+ and trained and specialised in the Jss subjects i.e either sciences or arts . languages was compulsory for all.well equipped.CEO had no problem earlier but KUPPET refused them. But they would nb of great benefit only that they don’t understand this degree.
Primary option specialised in all jss subjects is either sciences or arts.well equipped.CEO was ok with it earlier but KUPPET did not understand this degree . languages was compulsory.they had c+ and above

There is a guy who s been a pilot for 8,yrs yet he had scored a D-,,in high school. Joho did a degree course and was recognized as governor. Any teacher who has undergone any training is able to teach at any level so long as they have an induction…. Let teachers be up graded and allowed to track these junior secondary do long as one is determined I believe they can do it. Sometimes what someone got at highschool may not say much about what they are now. The challenges they faced may have made them get that c plain. Let us not make other teachers feel inferior.
What is making jss class a big deal to teach? What is so special in their learning activities, the same teachers who taught them could have continued teaching them then they add more teachers as times go by. Surely let’s stop making teaching this class a big issue just because of the name secondary, these are still young children who need better nurturing.
There are p1 practising teachers with tsc under p $ p terms who scored c+ and above and with c+ in many subjects for combination but they have not degrees some of them were university materials with alot of hustling experience, numerous certifates of merits in many levels and fields, some of these teachers can serve better. Their fate is also important to be considered.
Tsc consider the grade in pte, credits are there, kcse C+ and above are there, C+above combinations are there, merits are there held by p1 teachers who were locked out universities by financial factors, these are trs who got demoralised by inavoidable factors they can serve better.
We are taking care of the JSS as you continue exposing your ignorance and demoralizing us
I have looked at the curriculum design and those qualifications that you are insisting and has brought even division among teachers should be considered in Grade 9 which is equivalent to form 1
We all know that but we do not want to come out clear
Please consider the generation that is getting lost and fear God
I pity those who did CBC upgrade, they had being promised the vacancies in jss but now they are not in any considerations, not in primary options neither in jss.evryone in Kenya forgot of the.may God forbid.
What about those with c plain
KCSE
diploma in SNE
Degree in SNE secondary option
Why did Tsc allow Universities to offer this degree(Primary Option)?? This is mental torture and is not pleasing at all. Let them give administrative posts hence,, trs have used a lot of money in learning!, this is not good at all
What about me and others who don’t have diploma neither degree,l only have PTE certificate with a B- in KCSE,,am currently teaching JSS and very comfortable but not deployed to teach JSS,,it’s because we have only one teacher posted to my school and the subjects are 14.
This element of primary options degree is not eligible really affect me personally as a primary options degree holder and if is not eligible then scrap it from all universities because we under took it as it comply with current CBC
What about those teachers who have upgraded
Consider KCE with Division 3, and Diploma in ECD ,then proceeded to Degree in Early Childhood and Primary Education. We qualify for Junior Secondary.
Kindly consider teachers with degree in primary option
I pray for the day those who did a degree with a C in KCSE will be considered too.
God graciously hear us🙏
Please tsc, consider other deplomas and degrees with a mean Grade of C+ in KCSE and we shall really appreciate.
TSC should then give trs with c n a degree tsc numbers. TSC keeps denying them Tsc numbers claiming they show had gone for diploma then degree
Physics, maths teacher, history, crew, teacher in jss. taking for teen subjects. Who takes English and kiswahili? Stop wasting the learners please 🤣🤣maajabu
Kindly reset the system to allow the C plain holders with pre University and a B. Ed apply…
Kindly TSc to consider teachers with C+ and a bove and are holders of degree in Education.
I did diploma in primary option with C plain and yet naambiwa its not valid haya i had to do P1 to get tsc no. ..kwani why do education sector allow a course to run n yet it wont be considered in future?
For sure education sector your failing us, your making teaching to look bad to next generation. Whenever a teaching course pops up and people do it with no employment at the end it trully heartbreaks.
Consider us too plz.
Why do you forget p1teachers who did kce and had division11 and have bachelor of education secondary option.give directions pliz
We wish that tsc will grant us transfers as they deploy us to jss. They should not forget that some of us are the same teachers who have not secured transfer yet,and we need go back to our families.
Tsc should consider p1 (Bed)graduate teachers with division 2 who didn’t proceed to A level due to financial problems to teach jss
Consider those with c+,with degree primary option and ecde, tsc recognised this degree only to be taken over by the emergency of counties when teachers were already in the system, gr 7 and 9 is mere primary
Consider teachers who recently upgraded they can handle Jss well since they are equipped with CBC content please, don’t waste them.
TSC are you aware that those teachers in primary without degrees or diplomas, who scored C plains in KCSE are the ones delivering in schools? Are you aware that they are even handling JSS very well than the way you see them as failures who can’t handle JSS. Teaching is a calling. You can have papers to doctorate level but without passion in teaching then you’ll be holding papers just to get big salary
What about those deployed to sec and wish to teach in junior?
There are a number of P1 teachers with C+ and above undergoing an undergraduate program in different universities. I have a case in point. Those ones should go to junior secondary automatically
What about teaches with c- a ND have gone to university they are being frustrated.
What about those who got a c+as a mean grade one teaching subject is c+and above but the minor subject got below c+after being misguided by the University he attended?
Tsc should consider all p1 teachers who have any degree or diploma provided the y had a c+ in kcse
I feel that those who did Bachelors degree primary option should be considered course apart from primary subjects, the also did another in addition to the primary option. Just like those who did special education
TSC to promote all teachers who had gone back to school teachers they wasted time and resources and this will lead to depression among many if left without promotion.
Tsc to consider all teachers who have upgraded .it isnot a must teach in jjs what we need is promotion.
Tsc to stop putting maths as a mandatory subject
The same teachers who were teaching STD 7 & 8 are now illegible to teach grade 7.
TSC should consider P1 teachers with diploma and degree in ECDE because they are the ones saving the situation in teaching JSS by now in most schools.
What about those currently serving in tsc has a p1 a diploma in special education but a kcse grade of C ???
Why lower the qualifications yet u can’t reset the system aacheni kutudanganya buuana
Kindly consider division 2 in kce and degree secondary option teach jss
What will happen to applicants who submitted their application but missed in the list first round coz the system indicates you already submitted your application when applying for 2nd round
What is the fate of those who missed in the list first round but had all their documents verified
TSC to consider p1 teachers with division 2 in KCE and degree secondary option teach jss
