86,000 shortlisted C1 teachers to battle it out for promotion to C2

A total of 86,000 shortlisted teachers in job group C1 will battle it out for promotion to Senior Teacher II (T-Scale 7 Grade C2) position in December.

The teachers will be fighting to fill the advertised 10,819 slots for senior teacher II in regular primary school and 700 slots for senior teacher II in special schools.

The TSC promotion interviews for the teachers will start from 4th to 15th December 2023 at various Sub-county venues selected by the Commission.

Those who have been acting as senior teachers and have letters to prove stand a better chance. Also those who upgraded their studies from PTE certificates to Diploma, Degree etc are well positioned.

The Commission score sheet will guide how the interview marks will be awarded to candidates. With TPAD and KCPE performance being part of the rating.

Already the shortlisted teachers were issued with interview invitation letters which show the date and venue of the interview as well as the required items for the candidates to carry.

In August the Commission advertised 36,275 promotion slots for teachers from job group C1 to D5.

The applications were done online and ran till 15th September. Around150,000 teachers got shortlisted to attend the promotion interviews.

This is the largest number of teachers the Commission has ever shortlisted for promotion interviews.

In one of the invitation letters seen by Teachers Arena, a C1 teacher who applied for promotion through the Advert No 61/2023 is required to appear with these seven items during interview.

1) Original National ID Card

2) Original Academic and Professional Certificates

3) Letter of appointment to the current Grade

4) Letter of appointment to the current post (where applicable)

5) Analysed individual subject results in KCPE/KCSE Examinations for the last three years, certified by TSC County Directors/Sub County Directors.

6) Performance Appraisal Reports for 2020, 2021, and 2022

7) Any other relevant testimonials supporting your performance

Those successful will be required to produce five chapter six documents before beng confirmed.

Below are the five documents that are mandatory inline with Chapter six of the Kenyan Constitution on ‘Leadership and Integrity’.

  • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) cost 1,050/-
  • Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) cost Free
  • Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) cost Free
  • Clearance from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) cost Free
  • A Clearance Certificate from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) cost 2,200/-

The Commission will promote the successful ones to grade C2 and post them to a different school within same sub county.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A SENIOR TEACHER II (C2)

(1) Prepare lesson plans, lesson notes, timetables, schemes of work and maintain academic standards in the school to ensure that the syllabus is covered in time for evaluation;

(2) Teach the subjects of specialization to impart knowledge and skills to the learners;

(3) valuate the learners on subjects of specialisation and prepare them for national and other examinations;

(4) Provide new ideas and programmes to ensure improvement in teaching and learning in the subjects of specialisation;

(5) Embrace teamwork through collaborative planning and teaching to ensure consistency and improvement in curriculum delivery;

(6) Serve as a role model and maintain learner discipline to create conducive environment for learning;

(7) Provide guidance and counseling services to learners to instill norms and values for harmonious co-existence;

(8) Organise workshops/seminars/symposiums to share ideas, and further knowledge in subjects areas;

(9) Organize remedial actions to support learners with performance gaps.

(10) Collect, collate and maintain all school records such as; enrolment, teaching and learning resources, evaluation records, attendance registers;

(11) Organise and coordinate school based in-service programmes to build teachers capacity for improved teaching and learning;

(12) Organise school based and zonal subject panels to facilitate sharing of knowledge, innovations and new trends;

(13) Coordinate gender mainstreaming issues for teachers and learners in curricular and co-curricular activities such as sports to ensure gender equity, equitable participation and maximization of potential of teachers and learners;

(14) Ensure discipline in school and arbitrate disputes among learners;

(15) Supervise cleanliness of the school compound and ensure learners are tidy; and

(16) Serve as secretary to the school disciplinary committee.
