What teachers & candidates do during Knec national exam rehearsals

KCSE, KJSEA and KPSEA are around the corner. KCSE rehearsals have been done on Friday 17th October 2025.

KPSEA and KJSEA candidates will have their rehearsals on 24th October 2025.

Teachers contracted by Knec as centre managers, invigilators and supervisors for the exams do a number of things during rehearsal day including briefing learners on important exam instructions and rules.

Among the important things candidates will be doing this day is being briefed on exam instructions, guidelines and penalties.

Another key event they be taken through is arranging their desks or tables according to the index numbers for KCSE and according to assessment numbers for KPSEA and KJSEA candidates.

Below are the duties the exam supervisors, invigilators and centre managers will be doing that day.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF KCSE, KJSEA & KPSEA INVIGILATORS AND SUPERVISORS DURING REHEARSAL DAY

1) Ensuring a secure room with a lockable cabinet or cupboard is allocated by the Centre Manager for storage of examination materials other than the question papers and answer scripts during the examination period;

2) Inspecting examination rooms to ascertain that they meet the specification prescribed by the Council and are free of stimulus materials and ensure that the desks or tables are arranged as per the Council’s specifications;

3) Briefing candidates on how to conduct themselves during the examination.

4) For Supervisors to brief and assign duties to the invigilators on what is expected of them during the examination period;

During the examination period Knec has also allowed only a number of people inside exam centres. The measures are aimed to curb exam malpractices.

Knec has authorized only the following persons to be in the examination centres during KPSEA, KCPE and KCSE exam periods.

1 Centre Manager;

2 Deputy Principal/Headteacher;- where an examination centre has more than one deputy then the centre manager shall designate one deputy to assist him/her;

3 Supervisor(s);

4 Invigilator(s);

5 Gatekeeper;

6 Laboratory technician and science teacher only during practicals;

7 Authorized support staff to prepare meals for candidates who will strictly restrict their movements to the Kitchen.
