Under the 2026 Rewards and Recognition Framework launched in August, the Commission opened nominations to capture the extraordinary contributions of educators across public, private, and international learning institutions, as well as retired teachers.
Following the closure of the nomination window on 26th August, the selection process progressed through precise chronological stages:
Eligibility & Longlisting (27th–29th August): The Recognition and Awards Sub-Committee vetted all submissions against stringent criteria, producing a verified longlist of eligible nominees.
Sub-County Vetting (30th August–3rd September): Sub-County Selection Panels reviewed files, established merit lists, and identified initial awardees.
County Verification (4th–8th September): County-level panels evaluated and authenticated candidate portfolios to advance contenders.
Regional Panels & Interviews (9th–10th September): Regional boards conducted final shortlisting and candidate interviews to select top-tier representatives.
National Finalization (11th September): The Recognition and Awards Sub-Committee officially concluded the identification of the top three national awardees per category.

- Foundational & Career Impact: Early Years Educator Award, Early Career Educator Award, and Lifetime Achievement Award.
- Innovation & Specialized Focus: Innovation and ICT Integration in Teaching Award, Sustainable Development Educator Award, and Inclusive Educator Award.

Running parallel to the awards process is the World Teachers’ Day Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, 27th September 2026, starting promptly at 6:00 a.m.
Decentralized across all eight TSC regions, the marathon eliminates logistical hurdles, allowing educators in Coast, North Eastern, Eastern, Central, Rift Valley, Western, and Nyanza to participate comfortably near their local stations.
Featuring inclusive 5 km and 10 km categories, the event acknowledges the physical demands of the teaching profession while fostering workplace camaraderie.
