TSC to replace teachers in acting capacity with promoted ones

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will replace teachers who are currently acting as administrators but failed to secure promotion.

This means teachers who are acting as senior teachers, senior masters, deputy headteachers, deputy principals, headteachers and principals but missed promotion will now lose their positions.

The Commission had advertised 36,505 promotion slots in September last year. TSC has published a list of 724 pages containing details of successful teachers.

TSC has also started to issue promotion letters to successful teachers through their county directors.

In January till March this year the Commission promoted a number of deputies to act as headteachers and principals in various primary and secondary schools.

This happened at a time TSC is faced with huge retirements of headteachers and principals.

TSC also issued an order to county and sub county directors to ensure there are no vacuum in schools.

TSC conducted teacher promotion interviews in December and January. Interviews for primary school teachers happened in December 2023.

Interviews for post primary school teachers happened in January 2024. Around one hundred and fifty thousand teachers had been shortlisted.

TSC will issue all 36,505 successful teachers with promotional letters who will then be required to submit five Chapter six documents.

Below are the five documents that are mandatory inline with Chapter six of the Kenyan Constitution on ‘Leadership and Integrity’.

TSC has hinted that those promoted to deputy and headteacher positions will be posted outside their current sub-counties.

Those promoted to be senior teachers are more likely to serve within schools with vacancies in their current sub-counties.

However those promoted through confirmation will serve in schools where they have been acting for years.

The unsuccessful teachers will be issued with regret letters which will serve as evidence of their interview attendance.
