TSC Sets September 10 Deadline for Teacher Training Needs Survey
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has launched an online Training Needs Assessment (TNA) targeting key education stakeholders across the country.
Operating under the Kenya Primary Education Equity in Learning (KPEEL) Programme, the initiative aims to systematically identify emerging professional development gaps among educators and school administrators.
The findings generated from this nationwide assessment will directly inform the review, structuring, and enhancement of future training content.
Furthermore, the data will anchor the successful implementation of relevant TSC Teacher Professional Development (TPD) Short Courses, ensuring that capacity-building frameworks remain responsive to contemporary classroom environments.
Core Focus Areas of the Assessment
The online questionnaire is structured to harvest detailed feedback regarding specific administrative and pedagogical competencies.
Targeted respondents will evaluate areas where teachers and institutional leaders require deeper capacity building, including:
- Teacher Performance Appraisal and Development (TPAD): Reviewing execution bottlenecks and operational efficiencies.
- Remote Learning Methodologies (RLM): Assessing digital delivery literacy and alternative education frameworks.
- Teacher Induction, Mentorship and Coaching (TIMEC): Evaluating onboarding structures and peer-support mechanisms.
- School Administration and Management: Identifying emerging leadership demands in modern educational institutions.
Targeted Categories of Respondents
To maintain precision and leverage expert perspectives, the TSC has isolated specific stakeholder groups to complete the assessment. County Directors have been instructed to mobilize three primary categories of respondents:
- Institutional Leaders: Heads of institutions who double as active officials of the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) and the Kenya Primary School Heads Association (KEPSHA).
- Trainers of Trainers (ToTs): Exactly 106 teachers selected across counties who underwent specialized training in June 2026 focusing on TPAD and RLM.
- TIMEC Champions: Practitioners actively steering Teacher Induction, Mentorship and Coaching initiatives in the field.
Administrative Directives and Deadlines
In an internal memo signed by Dr. Mugwuku Nthamburi, Director of Teacher Professional Management, County Directors have been tasked with absolute oversight to guarantee maximum turn-out.
Officials are required to cascade the questionnaire link immediately to all designated participants within their jurisdictions.
