The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has issued fresh and detailed guidelines to teachers on what they will be doing while in schools.
Through notices sent to Headteachers and Principals by TSC County Directors, teachers are required to report to their stations and ensure they sign and out in the official attendance register.
Teachers are also expected to be at schools at all times as a team of TSC and Ministry of Education officials will be moving rounds to check on the status of preparedness.
The notices sent to school heads read as below
“All Headteachers/ Principals,
The Commissions’ pronouncement for teachers to report to their stations from 28th September 2020, still stands. The following is expected:-
- All teachers report to their work stations and clock in system be operationalized. Sign in and out.
- Staff meeting be held to discuss the following for implementation:-
(a). Strategies on resumption of teaching & LEARNING
(b). Cleaning/ creating a conducive learning/teaching environment
(c). Preparation of Timetables
(d). Preparation of Schemes of work
(e).. Working on TPAD
(f). Updating the TMIS
(g). Putting in place the psycho-social support systems( strengthen the Guidance& Counseling Committee) - Put strategies on the observance of the MOH protocols:-
(a.) Availability of water/hand washing points
(b.) Social distancing
(c). Isolation room
(d.) Disaster management strategies
NB: All Schools MUST establish a COVID-19 19-Disaster Management Committee.
We expect visitors in our institutions anytime checking on the status of Schools Preparedness for resumption.
All Heads are expected in their schools. Permission to be away must be sort in writing from relevant offices”.
Schools were closed in March after the first case of Covid-19 was reported. However TSC teachers have been receiving their salaries for six months despite the schools been closed.
TSC CEO Dr. Macharia last week directed the teachers to report back to work for what she termed as “preparation for eventual reopening of schools”.
Through a circular TSC also directed the teachers to take part in making adequate arrangements for re-opening of schools, which shall include the following:
a) Work with relevant Stakeholders to ensure thorough cleaning of classrooms, offices, dormitories, all school amenities and ensure that the same are in habitable conditions for Learners.
b) Development of innovative strategies designed to offer psychosocial support to Learners, Parents and other Stakeholders.
c) Preparation of curriculum delivery materials including timetables, schemes of work, lesson plans and related activities for curriculum implementation and delivery;
d) Development of innovative strategies and mechanisms for curriculum implementation while upholding the Ministry of Health Guidelines and protocols for containment of the spread of COVID-19 including social distancing, regular handwashing, use of sanitizer and wearing of face masks.
e) Proper sharing of duties and responsibilities among all Teachers while making deliberate efforts to protect Staff with underlying conditions.
